Miller getting ready for her first home game this Wednesday. I thought it curious that a former WNBA, college coach at a fairly big program and TV announcer would be attracted to such a small school.

She's probably one of the top five women's players of all time. Are there any potential Division 1 players who would drop down to play for her?

Somewhat doubtful. Her fame came before the current players were born.

Yes, but she's been an analyst on TV since 1994. She was an NBA announcer in 2009.

We'll see. I think it's a remarkable hire.
It is said several other schools turned her down because she had too much swagger.
It's also a factor that both Mike Garrett and Miller know what it's liked to be ostracized.

Garrett took a big fall when USC got slapped for NCAA violations.
Miller was black balled, somewhat, for accepting the USC coaching job after Marianne Stanley was fired. Other women coaches shunned her, wouldn't share film, because they felt Stanley was fired for demanding the same pay as the men's coach.

So now you have a millionare drawing a modest coaching salary living in a tiny campus apartment. I think she is still allowed to announce games during the post season.

AD Garrett has plans for growth...
"The Road to Rome, he calls it. Rome, Ga., hosts the NAIA championship game, and Garrett is unabashed in his plan. Win the 2013 NAIA title, spur school spirit and alumni pride, build up the finances and Langston's profile, and then do the same thing all over again in the NCAA."

I would not be surprised if Miller is not the AD in 10 years!

Good article. If they make it to Division 1 it will be the underdog story of the decade.

I had a classmate, white kid from Woodward, OK who went to Langston in 1960 for veterinary studies. Excellent little school, unknown to most.

I'm writing an article on Cheryl Miller.
