Absolutely TERRIBLE to not tell your kid that he cannot throw the ball out of bounds like that.

lol

Just awful. Only Baylor could pull off a L in such fashion.

That was the worst thing he could have done on a length of the court pass. It has to touch someone--anyone--even if it's an opposing player.

What a way to lose a game! :facepalm

1.0 on the clock, tie game. Baylor is in-bounding under the opposing basket (i.e. have to go the length of the floor). Apparently, they've got some super-duper play for just such an occasion, b/c they bring a kid in off the bench who has seen no minutes - I am guessing b/c he is the best length-of-the-floor passer they have. He heaves it all the way to the other end of the court (in defense of the kid who threw it, it was a GREAT throw for that kind of play). Apparently, Austin is supposed to catch it right by the rim and dunk / layup / what-have-you. Great plan. The only POSSIBLE THING that could go wrong, and really the ONLY POSSIBLE way you could lose the game (at home, mind you) is that the ball is touched by NO ONE and goes straight out of bounds...

And that is exactly what happened. Austin didn't get close enough to it (boxed out fairly well and they ran NO screens to get him open) and the Wildcats didn't touch it.

Result, Wildcats' ball, same place - in-bounding under their own basket. They run a great play, Baylor loses track of (of all people!) Rodney MacGruder who does a catch-and-shoot to bury the three-pointer and the Bears.

Poor Scott Drew. Poor Baylor b/c of Scott Drew...

I guess that exorcises KSU's demons from the 2003 Big XII Tournament.

I have no problems with Baylor trying to score there. Really shouldn't be any downside to trying. They have the tallest player on the floor to throw it up to. But you have to tell both the in-bounder and Austin that no matter what, that ball has to be touched.

Baylor is nothing more than an AAU basketball team masquerading as a college basketball team!

There success level has been really high lately. A couple of elite 8's. Its obvious that Drew is no Bill Self. But Drew built that program from the dumps. He has elite players wanting to go to Waco.

If you cant have a great coach, the next best thing is a great recruiter.

Exactly.

Why would you not try to score?

Exactly.

Why would you not try to score?

I would try to score, but I would do it with a pass to the FT line or 3 point line and hope for a prayer. They had a full second, no need to try for some goofy alley-oop.

Really don't fault him for trying to score. The only thing I think would have been a better idea is throw it to half court and chunk up a prayer. Has to have at least as much of a chance as a length-of-the-floor heave for an in-bounds play. Plus, you're at home and it wasn't like they were lucky to be tied, they had been in it the entire time. It works and he's Les Miles. It fails and he's, well, Les Miles...

Just don't think a gimmic inbounds was a winning play. That said, it was a perfect storm for them to lose in regulation and they were able to do it. It might have been a worse play that they let MacGruder loose on the in bounds.
