Coach Lon - please watch how Baylor finishes out the game

my point WAS they kept the tempo up and just kept laying it on ... then, suddenly, it was slow down city. I always get mad when Lon slows it down when we have a big lead.

Uh, I'll take Lon EVERY day over that idiot at Baylor. PLEASE don't act like Lon should ever listen to or mimick that moron.

Considering Lon and OU have beaten Drew and Baylor 4of the last 5 times they have played there isn't anything about coaching Drew can teach Lon. As for tonite as has been the case for Baylor so far,it is easy to win when the shots fall.

That is the design intended in taking the air out of the ball. The coach makes the decision to take the air out of the ball and the clock is what he is really working against. He understands that his opponent is going to narrow the gap but if his team can make its free throws the opponent will fall just short on their comeback attempt when the clock runs out.

Football makes you feel the same way but for some reason virtually all coaches do it. There must be some logic for them making that decision.

Slowing down the game is exasperating for fans but if done properly (start at the right time and make free throws) it almost always results in a W along with some nervous fans. Self included. For certain I am going to trust Kruger to manage a game more so than any who post here.

I also think that with Sooners triying to score in transition and the first 10 seconds of the shot clock that tempo makes a comeback from a double digit lead easier with a few missed shots. Hence the need to slow it down late with a lead.

Conversely an up tempo team like OU often has its offense most impacted by slowing down. Somewhat damned if you do and damned if you don't. Fortunately as the top free throw shooting team in the B12 it should just become a matter of making free throws.

No question it happens on occasion but for every game lost by slowing the offense down and burning the clock a dozen teams take the air out of the ball and barely eek out a win which is the coaches plan.

Taking the air out of the ball is successful far more than it fails. It just scares the hell out of its fans. And unfortunately it is the nature of the beast.

Only a complete fool would suggest otherwise.
