Curious if OSU was trying to get him a medical hardship for the previous year when he tore his Achilles? He played 12 games.

I think it will be tough for them to get q medical hardship for Cobbins IMHO. The rules say all his games played have to be in the first half of the season, which they were. They were the 1st 13 games of the year. Also, he can't have played over 30% of the regular season games. OSU was 21-13, so 30% is 10.2. You round up and he could only play in 11 games to be considered for a medical hardship and he actually played in 13.

It's further compounded by the fact he played in 2 games in 2010-2011 so he already received a medical hardship for that year. There are cases where a kid can get 6 years to play if he lost 2 full years to injury, but this one is on the cusp for consideration. It could be granted but I doubt it. However, I don't blame OSU for trying to get another year.

Medical Hardship Rule Explanation

I don't think they're even trying for a medical redshirt for Cobbins. I noticed he played in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT) April 8-11. Each year for 63 years the P.I.T has invited 64 of the best college basketball players (seniors) from across the nation to participate in a four-day, twelve game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team. TaShawn Thomas and Le'Bryan Nash were there, too, along with several other Big 12 seniors: Royce O'Neal, Dustin Hogue, and Bryce Dejean-Jones,

Cobbins has moved on.
