If Sherri has an opening on her staff in the next few years, what do you think the chances are that she would hire Colton?

Just my opinion, but I hope not. Nothing against Colton, but at that stage of her career she would possible be losing a recruiter coach and needs to replace them with one unless Colton goes to another school to learn and becomes one.

If there is an opening, I think Coale would hire Colton or Morgan Hook. It would be in line with her other in bred hires.

Minus the "inbred" comment, I agree with soonerstar. I would prefer that Sherri hire new blood, rather than subject herself and the program to charges/whispers of nepotism.

We have seen how well hiring relatives has worked in the OU football program... If the truth were to be told, Bob Stoops probably wishes that he could be "gracefully" rid of his brother Mike, and his accompanying rants on the sideline.

Let's face it: if Sherri were to hire her son, and for whatever reason the hire didn't work out, it is MUCH harder to fire a relative than a non-relative.
Why put herself in that kind of a position, when there are MANY coaches with equal or better qualifications?

The question itself is beyond silly

Really??? When you consider that the staff is made up primarily of high school coaches who were close friends with Sherri, I don't think the question is silly at all. I would say that hiring a head coach and two assistants with no college coaching experience is much crazier than Sherri hiring Colton.

But, then, the decision to hire Sherri was silly. Wasn't it?

judging by the fact those assistants have now been to three final fours, i suppose it wasn't so crazy after all.

Sure. Hingsight is 20-20. If Colton goes on to become a successful coach at OU or somewhere else, that wouldn't be a silly question either.

All of our coaches had previous coaching experience - some at the college level. Colton doesn't have those qualifications; he would not be a candidate. The question itself is insulting to Coach Coale - but then that's never bothered Norm.

:ez-laugh: You're really touchy this morning, Tango. Have trouble sleeping?

How many Directors of Operations has Sherri hired that had previous coaching experience?

That's pretty funny, Norm. On the other hand, the thread topic was, as stated by Tango, silly. To even imply that Sherri might hire Colton if and when a vacancy exists on her staff is beyond silly, actually. It's ludicrous.

It's like asking: Do you think there's a chance Chelsea Clinton will be our next Secretary of State if Hillary is elected president? Well, sure, it's technically possible. But the odds are about 10,000,000 to 1 that it won't happen.

Anyway, I guess it gives us something to jab each other with during the off season. :ez-laugh:

I (along with many other Sooner fans) thought it was ludicrous she hired Chad and Jan but both hires seem to have worked out fairly well. I wonder who on here will think it is still ludicrous if Colton becomes the next Director of Operations. :)

Many people thought the hire of Jan (at the time Sherri was hired) was ludicrous? You're making this up as you go along, aren't you?

I sleep like a babe, btw. Not touchy, just don't suffer fools easily.

If you thought it was a good idea when Sherri hired Jan or Chad, you are the only person I've ever talked who thought that.

Let me ask you a couple of questions.

What other college coach with no college coaching experience can you name has ever hired 2 friends as assistants with zero major college coaching experience?

Do you in your wildest dreams think Joe C would allow that to ever happen again at OU?

You know. It kind of worked. I doubt that Joe C would hire Sherri, and that would be a mistake. We weren't, but we are. We made a stupid hire, and it got us to three final fours and is it now sixteen straight NCAA appearances?

Actually, the hiring of Sherri wasn't really stupid. Risky, but not really stupid. Don't forget that she had the endorsement of one of the best in college basketball...Geno Auriemma. That endorsement makes it not so stupid. It was still a risk, but OU took that risk and it paid off. Makes you think that maybe Geno really DOES know what he's talking about.
