I've hated Duke ever since Christian Laettner performed his FIRST head stomp. Most don't remember it. He stomped on Chris Street of Iowa. A pre-season all-american, Street died in a car accident later that year.

Duke has never bothered me. Never liked Louisville or Memphis, though.

I hate Duke for one reason. December 22, 1990! OU had lost Jackie Jones, Smokey McCovery and Damon Patterson to grades (Patters played in the scond semester). Duke was highly ranked (and very good). They came to Norman and ended the home court winning streak.

OU actually played quite well given the fact that three starters from last year's team were not available. Ultimately Duke won by 5 points.

My dislike of all things Duke was increased on January 4, 1993 when Duke beat OU in OT in Durham. Duke had a huge lead early and **** Vitale was loving it. OU came back and took it to OT. Angelo Hamilton threw down a 360 dunk in Cameron Indoor and I thought **** Vitale was going to cry.

I look forward to the day when Vitale and Coach K retire.

I'm 78% sure those two incidents were unrelated.

I used to be a huge Duke fan. Johnny Dawkins is probably my most favorite non-OU player of all time. I even have coach K's autograph which my dad got at the 93 final four. I don't care much for them now though.

I dislike Dook because the refs are so one-sided when they play.

Exhibit A: Dook v. Zona tonight.

Plumlee travelled on a lay-up, and his big dumb foot was on the sideline when he got a rebound, no call either time. Singler travels on a shot and they call a foul on zona.

That column is retarded.

It has 100%, absolutely nothing to do with race.

The main reason is because Duke is successful - it's no different than people hating the "evil empire" NY Yankees.

The writer says that argument isn't valid because people don't "hate" UNC or UCLA, but he's missing the point. People also don't generally "hate" the Phillies or the Red Sox or the Cardinals... at least with the same ferver that they hate the Yankees.

Duke is the NY Yankees of college basketball in the 64-team tournament era. They are the standard bearer and thus they are the most hated.

And furthermore, the ascent of ESPN from "cable sports network" in the 1980s and 1990s to the ubiquitous, unquestioned TV/Internet/etc. platform for all sports in the 2000s hasn't helped. It's no secret they've always had a love affair with Duke, and the fact that ESPN is almost a single-source for sports information now makes their Duke loving even more repulsive.

So, in summation, Eff Duke.

No racist.

I don't hate Duke but I dislike them because the University was funded off the lungs of smokers.

Someday we might see an all robber-baron Final Four: Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Drexel.

I don't hate Duke, and I'd just as soon they win big games rather than NC, or Zona. That said, I think the media and **** Vitale are the biggest reason why people hate Duke. They go WAY overboard in their praise. But Duke has been a great program for what, 3 decades or so? They've had a nice run, and for the most part, they do it with good kids. I respect that, that they don't ever have off the court issues.

Have you hated OU ever since David Godbold stomped on that Villanova player's nutz?

If you watched the two incidents, it is crystal clear to all OU fans that Godbold was prevoked while Laettner simply attacked the guy with clear intent to cause severe bodily injury. I can't believe you cannot not see this obvious distinguishing factor.

I will say that Christian likely received better treatment from the media calling the game. I am pretty sure **** Vitale would have said something like it was most likely an accident even if it clearly wasn't. (Neither event was an accident, both guys got upset and did something stupid - it was out of character for both of them) I honestly think the blatant bias of Vitale and others in the media is a huge factor for people not liking Duke. Success is also a factor but for me, they ended the streak and I didn't like that.

Does anyone remember that game, speaking of Godbold, when the ball clearly went out of bounds and David tipped it back in to OU. Referees didn't catch it and the camera zoomed in on David's ****-eating grin. THAT WAS GREAT TIMES.

This!

Vitale, in this game, made me hate Vitale and also Duke by extension.

I dislike the ESPN bias for Duke and Vitale's constant fawning.

But I respect their program. Coach K is a good teacher and he does recruit good kids. They lose more games than they should because of their constant reliance on the trey. It seems when the treys are not falling their whole game including free shooting goes down the drain.

Over here the slant is that Coach K doesn't do a good job with big players so they get outmuscled at times. An exception to that is when they had Battier and Brand.

They were overrated this year but usually are.

Wish we could get some of their recruits.
