Good for him. I wonder why it took him so long. As I recall things, Jeff was at OU for 5 years. He had to be very close to graduating because he remained eligible. Regardless, it is nice to see him earn a degree.

:clap Congrats to Jeff Webster and all the other grads, both athletes and non-athletes.

Very heartening news.

Sometimes life happens. I attended OU for 2 1/2 yrs right out of H.S. I left to join the military because my mother was my dependent, and I couldn't care for her medical needs. I worked over 50 hours per week as a full time student my last yr at OU.

After serving on active duty for almost 9 yrs. I married and started my family. Life continued, and FINALLY after almost 20 years I went back and completed my BS, then got my MSW. I often wonder what took me so long, then I think about all of the changes in my life over the years....

Congrats to Jeff for not giving up, and for always keeping the goal of a degree fresh in his mind.:clap:clap

Congrats to Jeff! He and my wife went to HS together and were in the same graduating class at CA. I remember playing against him in the 9th grade Western Heights tournament in the 5th place game. We beat them despite him being 4 inches taller than the tallest player on our team. What I remember about Jeff was the swimming goggle looking glasses he wore but he was pretty talented even in the 9th grade.

Is it possible he got his degree so he could apply for an assistant coaching position in college?

One of the most underrated players that doesn't get mentioned enough in my opinion. I would say he's maybe one of the top 3 scorers in OU history. His turnaround jumper was amazing.

Congrats Jeff!!!! One of my fav sooners, for sure!

Congrats to Jeff. He is one of the earliest OU basketball memories/players that I have since I became a fan.

Here is some history for the younger fans that do not remember Jeff Webster. Jeff came from Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Jeff played his 4-plus years at OU for Coach Billy Tubbs. These were the last teams that Billy coached at OU in his 14 years here (i.e., Jeff was a senior on Billy’s last OU team). Jeff Webster is the second highest all-time scorer at OU, trailing only Wayman Tisdale. Jeff scored 2,281 points at OU.

These are the seasons that Jeff Webster was at OU.

1989-90 .. 27-5 (11-3 Big-8); NCAA Second Round (lost to North Carolina). Skeeter Henry, William Davis and Tony Martin were seniors. Junior Jackie Jones averaged 15 ppg in his only season at OU. Damon Patterson and Smokey McCovery were also juniors on this team, although Damon Patterson would have to redshirt the next season (1990-91) due to academic issues, and Smokey did not make it back for his senior season. Brent Price had just transferred in and had to sit out this season as a redshirt. Jeff Webster only played in 3 games and then became a medical redshirt. Jeff spent five years at OU.

NOTE: The eligibility problems of three 1990 juniors (Jackie Jones, Damon Patterson and Smokey McCovery) were significant markers in the decline of Billy Tubb’s level of success at Oklahoma. OU was a high seed in the Big Dance in 1990 and was looking forward to the return of Jones, Patterson and McCovery who were all excellent players. None of the three played in 1991, although Patterson played again in 1992 and was then the leading scorer as a senior. OU went to the NIT in three of Billy’s last four seasons at OU. Prior to that, Billy took the Sooners the the Big Dance eight years in a row.

1990-91 .. 20-15 (5-9); NIT Final. Jeff Webster led the team in scoring (18.3 ppg) as a RS-Freshman, followed by junior Brent Price (17.5 ppg), and senior Kermit Holmes (14.8 ppg). Sophomores Terry Evans and Brian Sallier were also double-digit scorers and Terrence Mullins was a senior. The Sooners won 4 games in the NIT, losing in the finals to Stanford in NYC. Jeff Webster was named Big Eight Conference Newcomer of the Year.

1991-92 .. 21-9 (8-6); NCAA First Round. The top two scorers were seniors Damon Patterson (20.6 ppg) and Brent Price (18.7 ppg). Sophomore Jeff Webster was third at 14.4 ppg, followed by juniors Brian Sallier (13.9 ppg) and Terry Evans (10.3 ppg). Lost to Southwestern Louisiana in the 1st Round of NCAA Tournament.

1992-93 .. 20-12 (7-7); NIT Second Round. Top scorers were senior guard Bryatt Vann (16.9 ppg), junior forward Jeff Webster (16.5 ppg), senior guard Angelo Hamilton (14.3 ppg), followed by seniors Terry Evans (14.0 ppg) and Brian Sallier (12.5 ppg).

1993-94 .. 15-13 (6-8); NIT First Round. As a senior, Jeff Webster led the way with 23.7 ppg. Jeff was named 1st Team All-Big Eight as he led the league in scoring. Other leading scorers on Billy’s final OU team were sophomore Ryan Minor (16.2 ppg), junior Calvin Curry (14.5 ppg) and senior Kenneth Conley (11.0 ppg). Junior John Ontjes was the point guard, averaging 9.7 ppg.

Jeff was a scorer. He could score the basketball. I have many fond memories of Jeff and those teams.

His RS frosh year he had a huge breakout game AT Texas (non conference back then) in the early part of the season. I think he had 36 or 38 points. At that point we knew he could score the basketball.

Jeff's a great dude. He had a twin sister that also accepted a basketball scholarship at OU. She wasn't near as good as Jeff, but she was a pretty good HS player. Jeff was a Parade AA and maybe even a burger boy if they had that back then. Like I said earlier, my wife went to HS with him and his sister. She really liked both of them.

I don't believe the CA boys won the state championship when he was in HS, but I could be wrong. I think the CA girls won it though.

I've always considered that 1990-91 team to be the 'lost' team of OU basketball. Think of the roster of players that could have been at Tubbs fingertips:

G Terry Evans, 6-1 SO
G Smokey McCovery, 6-2 SR
G Terrence Mullins, 6-3 SR
G Brent Price, 6-1 JR
F Kermit Holmes, 6-7 SR
F Jackie Jones, 6-8 SR
F Damon Patterson, 6-7 JR
C Bryan Sallier, 6-8 SO
F Jeff Webster, 6-8 rFR

We were really good in 1989-90 but this team might have been an all-time caliber team. I figure the starters would have been Price, McCovery, Jones, Webster, and Holmes.
