I wonder how long Merritt has been dealing with this. There have been a lot of posts here about how little he's done on the court this season and speculation about whether he'll ever play or be effective at OU. Too often we forget that these players are people 1st and they're battling the same things we're often battling and frequently they're battling something much greater. They're not robots.
All my best to Merritt and his family. I hope he takes the time he needs to grieve. It would be great if he's able to graduate from his JUCO, make it to OU, & help the team but that's a low priority at this point. And if it doesn't work out, that's not a failure of Kruger's or the assistants or Merritt. Sometimes bad things happen.
