Cousins has become a critical part to OU's season

Cousins is typical of why Kruger has been so successful. Finds a guy with more upside than the spin and who is willing to work to reach that upside.

Amazing the difference in the guy this year. Don't know how he would function under a full court press this year if he had to carry the load. Total mismatch between him and the Baylor shooter so can't make much of how he schooled him.

The improvements Cousins has made since last year have been nothing short of remarkable.

I never dreamed he would go from shooting 28% from the field last year to better than 44% this season, while improving his three point shooting from a pathetic 25% to a very respectable 38% this season. That's what hard work and good coaching can do.

Very happy Cousins is a Sooner. He has found a way to contribute in just about every game.

You guys see a pattern? Every recruit LK brings in is exactly what we need, on and off te court. Bigs next year, 4 guards the year before... It's just great with this LK guy.
Hungry athletic gym rats!

Agree, but I think I would characterize them as hungry, athletic, talented gym rats. Coach Kruger doesn't need to "see stars" to know how to rate a recruit. He's got a very, very keen eye when it comes to recognizing D1 potential.

There is a lot to like about Cousins' game. You can see his confidence growing each game. He was our leading scorer and rebounder Saturday. He can also get after it pretty good on defense as well. But my favorite thing about his game may be how quick he can push it in an open court. He is deceptively quick with the ball in his hands.

Talented gym rats. You hit the nail on the head. I heard Buddy interviewed a while back and he was talking about how he gets mad because Cousins beats him to the gym some mornings.

i go back and forth with who is our most improved player and possibly the big 12 conference's most improved player: Cousins or Clark

Cousins is so talented, and keeps getting better. We mentioned this in another thread a few days ago, but his rebounding abilities are really something. Kid has some major hops and want to when it comes to rebounding! Right now I could see him being like a poor mans Russell Westbrook (I know he's been compared to him) or like a Markell Brown from OKState, whom I think is going to be a solid NBA player.

He was making Heslip look like an absolute fool when our shooting knocked Baylor into man.

The lights are still flickering for Cousins, but this kid "IMO" has the most upside to any player on the team! He hustles, rebounds, plays hard (really takes no time off on the court), has an attitude, shoots the mid range shot well, getting better on the 3 pointers, and makes Free Throws. I think Cousins is a year away from being All Big 12. I am convenience that he could become the best player on this current team. Flame away.....

No flame. I've been a Cousins fan from the get go. I also think he has some more ceiling to reach. But, so does Buddy. They will be a tough pair to beat on the wings next season.

Gary, next year:

PG-Woodard
Wing-Hield
Wing-Cousins
PF-Spangler\Buford
PF/C-Lattin

Is this what you think we're going to see? So I guess Hornbeak's starting days are over, barring injury?

I gotta admit, I thought Cousins was kind of a headcase last year. Boy am I an idiot. He looks so much more in control and comfortable out there. Last year I would cringe every time he had the ball and took a jumper, now, I expect them to go in. Seems like a great player/teammate, and more importantly, a great guy in general.

I don't see any way Hornbeak will jump Hield or Cousins since he hasn't this season. I also don't see any way Spangler comes off the Bench.

I think it will be

PG Woodard, Hornbeak
Wing - Cousins, Frank
Wing - Buddy, Buford
Forward - Spangler
Forward - Lattin or Bennet or Burford - not sure who starts here but we would have a primarily 4 man rotation in the post, five player rotation at the wing with Buford seeing spot duty at the wing if we have foul or injury trouble. That puts us at 9 deep with McNease red shirting to replace Bennet the next year

Buford will come in the most ready to play of the newbies. Because of that he may just move into Cam's old slot and away we go. However, it is my understanding that they would like to go bigger. They want a rim protector and shot blocker on defense.

But, they have some specific things that they need the #4 man to be able to do in order to make bigger a plus for both ends of the court. For instance, if playing two bigs, one or both of them need to be able to hit a jumper from the elbow. The coaches think Lattin might be able to hit that shot. Spangler may be able to stretch his game out some. They might pick up a power forward in the late signing period that can hit that shot.

It is too early to guess well.
