Anybody heard what his punishment might be? Another board said he got arrested last night.

Jake Trotter's capsule on the arrest.

Hoo boy, that was not well-timed by Isaiah. Jordan Woodard is already on campus and I have to believe this drops IC back in the race to start at point. Young fella better get his act together or he might be looking at the Tony Neysmith career arc.

Doesn't surprise me too much. I'm not all that high on Cousins, but we do need him this year, at worst in a back-up capacity. LK will punish him, and he'll move on.

A little more info:
Oklahoma guard Isaiah Cousins was arrested by Norman Police early Saturday morning on complaints of public intoxication and interference with the official process.

According to Sgt. Jennifer Newell of the Norman Police Department, an officer patrolling the Campus Corner district witnessed Cousins, 19, in an argument with an unidentified man outside Sugars night club some time around 2 a.m.

The officer separated the two, Newell said, when Cousins began to walk away. The officer asked Cousins to stop, but the OU basketball player ran away. Cousins was found hiding in a bush.

Newell said the officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol and red, watery eyes and slurred speech from Cousins. He was arrested and booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center at 2:35 a.m.

Cousins averaged 2.7 points in 32 games as a freshman last season. He started 14 times at the point guard spot, sharing the position with senior Sam Grooms.

He is a 19 year old in college....nobody ever did anything stupid at that age. NEVER.

Since when is going to Sugars, drinking beer, and bowing up at other college kids that have been to Sugars and drinking beer a dumb thing. It isn't like he was out at Dillards stealing shirts.

Kruger will grind on him some. Cousins will take his whipping and everyone will move on.

I love how you leave out "running from the cops."

I've never ran from the police, or anything "worse". Not at 19. Not at 29. And if I don't do it in the next 4 years, not at 39.

Not all 19 year olds do stupid stuff, and get in trouble with the law.

I wouldn't point to you as average. Running from the police is no big deal. It is what kids do. It was a mistake and he may have gotten off with a warning had he not ran but this doesn't make him a felon.

running from the cops is not what normal kids do and it is a big deal.

Let's just be thankful he gave us something to talk about in the offseason.

running from the cops is not what normal kids do and it is a big deal.

I completely disagree. I think a huge percentage of kids have run from the cops in a similar situation. When kids are toilet papering a house and cop car turns down the street what do they do?

When kids are fighting and a copy shows up what do they do?

When kids are partying in a field and the cops pull in, what do they do?

I think the answer is run and I don't think it is a big deal. Now if the kids were involved in a felony and ran, then it is a bigger deal.

I think you have that completely backwards.

I don't have a problem with a kid running that just committed a felony. I understand that. You committed a felony, you are going to get in big trouble, instincts are to run and try not to get caught up in the felony. When I say I don't have a problem with it, I mean the biggest issue is the felony, not the running.

But running when you've not really even done anything wrong? Doesn't make much sense to me. And in the examples you gave above, I don't running is what most people would do in those situations. Why? Mostly b/c in those situations, the punishment (if anything) is pretty mild. Running when you aren't in bit trouble is a character flaw, IMO. It's the character of kids that don't want to own up to even the simplest of punishments, for, like most people have stated, something that isn't that big of a deal (being a drunk college kid in public, and fighting). My first thoughts on why a kid in that situation runs is that there is something he is trying to hide. Make of that what you will.

Just my $0.02, which doesn't mean much. LK will get the facts and punish him accordingly.

Edit: Plus what Bounce said below.

Cousins was already engaged with the cop and the officer asked him to stop. It's not like he saw a cop on the way and ran to hide, he was ordered to stop

I think I am probably more concerned that he got caught than he ran. A kid that started several games as PG should be faster than the Norman PD or OU PD. :)

Honestly, looking back at myself at that age, I think there is a good chance I might have run and I was absolutely drinking under age. Therefore, I am not going to judge this kid to harshly.

You realize the drinking age and ability to get into Sugars is 21 right? So being drunk and inside a bar is going to get you in trouble when you are 19 as Cousins currently is.

That is a HUGE part of Norman PD, where once they find out you are underage, if they assume you have been drinking (red eyes, odor) you get a public intox in Norman. Ask any student about the Daily OK (OU newspaper) that lists the arrests each week about how many P.I.'s are listed each week. There are tons because in Norman they dish these out so easily. I graduated in 2010 and knew tons of people who got them freshman and sophomore year.
