Creighton

I liked his comment that he didn't know the coach very well, but he thought she might have stressed the fact that we had only attempted three free throws at halftime.

Hand and Vegas killing from the three as the lead goes to 47-29.

I could have sworn he said around 2,338. Or, perhaps he said that's how many the gym held.

I think he said the gym holds somewhere in the 2000-2900 range. But, the seats are mostly empty.

Not as if Colton's opinion matters, but I think he got the player of the game wrong. Whitney had some uncharacteristic turnovers. She threw some really bad passes, in my opinion. She had 8 rebounds, most of which came in the first half, but she unraveled in the second half. Aaryn was pretty solid.

I would agree that it was Vegas who deserved it. Not only Whitney, but everyone, had problems getting it inside to anyone. Did we hit even one entry pass to anyone? We were better at passing it out.

Good defense, 27%

Indeed. Creighton made a great adjustment after halftime of denying the middle. Also, many guards tried to pass it at Nicole's ankles. That's obviously not going to work.

A very good game by the ladies. First game for them and the defense played really well. The offense will get better as they get more games under their belts.

Too many turnovers but 5 of them came in the last 4 minutes.

Generally good defense. Some of our newbies lost their man a few times.

Whitney, in spite of her turnovers, Vegas and Hook really look solid. That will be a solid base to build the team around.

Jo more agressive in shooting the ball inside. Good.

I thought it was one of the best opening games in a number of years.

For only scoring 8 points, it seemed that Nicole was a lot more dominant than that. She seemed to be very difficult for Creighton to deal with. Of course, our overall shooting was 48%, 50% from the three. That may have been due to the shift in emphasis to guarding Nicole, as Sherri says. She also seemed to be much more aggressive on rebounds, although it really doesn't show up in the stats.

Vegas seemed to carry us when we struggled to score. She didn't. She could hit with a hand in her face from anywhere.

The defense was all over Creighton with a couple of exceptions. They had very few really good looks. They couldn't even seem to pass the ball where they wanted. They were heavily guarded on the perimeter, and it forced a lot of mistakes. When you shoot 26%, you are not shooting, or they are playing defense.

I thought this game really belonged to Nicole, Vegas, Whitney, Jo, and Morgan with Maddie and Portia getting some time. Kornet was OK when she was in the game. Jasmine seems too reluctant to play offense. Portia seems to be too eager to shoot when she really doesn't have a shot.

Is Creighton really the MV favorite?
