Ok, Rhode, we get it: You LOVE Bill Self and KU. That's great, but does the Daily Oklahoman really need to pimp for the Jayhawks? The last 4 times I have bought the Oklahoman there has been at least one article by Rhode about how great KU, its coaches and players all are. I'm starting to think the Thunder should just draft KU players and form a KU basketball professional division.

Does anyone that knows Capel know if he gets so freakin' sick of reading about how great KU is in our local papers? OU and OSU have a hard enough time keeping the elite players in state w/o this hack constantly pimping a KU program that consistently takes the top BBall talent in the state. I'm so sick of him. Thoughts? (other than don't buy the paper b/c we don't subscribe)
 
I think we should gather up a few of us and beat in his fat face...and yes, I'm serious.
 
Have you ever heard him on The Sports Animal? His voice raises an octave every time he mentions Bill Self's name...
 
Him and Self are BFF's what do you expect? He wrote his book. He got paid pimpin' Self.

Are these payments ongoing? If not, it might be time for him to move on to other topics.
 
We expect at least a pretense of objectivity from a writer for The Daily Oklahoman.
 
I guess I'd have to read the article. My guess is it's about the OKC Thunders new first round draft pick. Which is totally topical.
Anyone care to link it so we can read the "lovefest with Self".
I'm sure it's an exaggeration of the truth.
 
The article is all about Rohde's man-love for Self who has a crush on Aldridge. Why not an article about the Thunder's other pick, the big from Germany? Alas, no, we must hear more about KU. That's great that they're BFFs, but this is Oklahoma. Nobody outside of Rohde gives a rat's butt about Bill Self other than when OU is playing them. Once again, the Jokelahoman shows it's pathetic nature.
 
So who is with me...let's beat up the fat guy! Or the "used to be" bald guy!

So what you are saying is how come there's an article about the Thunders 1st round pick from the Big 12 as opposed to an article about the 2nd Round pick from Germany? LOL.
I have a feeling the article is about Aldrich. Not Self. But that's just a hunch. A simple posting of the article would help.

That might help, but it's not nearly as much fun as bashing John Rohde-Self...

Well, for sure Rhode isn't gutless!!!!

True story, one time Al Eschback's son and I got into it on the rivals message board when I took offense to how Al was "interviewing" our new basketball coach (typical beer and stripper talk). Al made me famous by calling me a "coward" on air for like an entire hour.

Now, I'm not going to get all Roy D. Mercer on anyone, but I'm about 99.9% sure I could take Al...sometimes these dudes think that they are way more insulated than they are. The good news is, from that point on, Al was respectful towards our coach; of course neither Al or his son have ever apologized and said I was right. Sort of feel bad for Al now though.
 
Whatever the case, the contempt some of these guys have for a significant chunk of their readership is really odd... not to mention supremely ironic given that until recently they shared a sports page with the columnist known pseudonymously as "Mr. Monday." I didn't realize Rohde was in this camp. Too bad.

As for the article that started this thread itself, I read it and it was innocuous enough, but I do think it's a legitimate journalistic question to ask whether a disclosure from The Oklahoman should accompany articles Rohde writes involving Self, particularly if he is still receiving royalties from the book he co-wrote with him. I e-mailed Mike Sherman to ask their policy on this.

I've got to tell you, you are on a roll today. That is what I meant by their feeling "insulated" . . . the reality is that there are tons of people that read and post on message boards, the contempt these guys show towards a segment of their audience is absurd.

Oh, and I think there should ABSOLUTELY be a disclosure any time that Rhode does a piece about Self. Whether he is still getting paid or not.
