Based on Rhode's history on the sports animal, any time he gets a chance to drop Bill Self's name, he will and he always makes it seems as if he just got off the phone with Bill or they just played a round of golf. But if you're interested in reading the story, OUHoops.com probably is not going to post it. If I were you I'd go to NewsOK.com. That is who Rhode works for.:ez-laugh::facepalm:ez-laugh::facepalm
I did go there and didn't see a story about Bill Self.
There's a story about Cole Aldrich with comments from Self but why wouldn't there be. Cole was just the Thunders #1 pick and his college coach is from OKC area.

Outside of Darnell Mayberry, I think the DOK are a bunch of hacks.
Look at the title to the article- "Self says Aldridge perfect fit for Thunder". How the heck does Self know that? He's never coached a day in the NBA, much less for the Thunder. Where is the article on the German big they drafted in the 2nd round? Most scouts say he has a much higher upside than Aldridge. Why not ask some NBA scouts, former coaches or GMs. Fran is an expert in foreign players and he'd be a great interview, but we get more KU love.
The point is, he has to constantly name drop Self and kiss KU's butt. Have you ever heard him say ANYTHING critical of KU BBall? He does it EVERY time he's on the SA too. He just needs to move to Lawrence and take up residence in the Self house so he'll be happy and we'll never have to listen to him again.

They've been friends for years and the relationship grew out of John's coverage of college basketball when Self was at Oklahoma State. Since the story was about Aldrich and not Self I doubt anyone gave a second thought to explaining the relationship.
John's covering the Thunder/NBA now, which will lead him to write some on Self and KU but only when it comes to draft prospects unless Self decides to make a go of NBA coaching. John's written on Self in the past and we probably should have mentioned it.
I'll keep this in mind going forward.
As I said the story was innocuous, and it is certainly not the biggest deal in the world, but I do think it's of some importance to disclose to your readers when a reporter has a financial interest in one of the subjects of his stories.

Sure. The last line of the article said Aldrich lost his last game at KU in the Ford Center in an upset loss to Northern Iowa. The jab stung me when I read that. :ez-laugh:
I don't read much from Rhode nor ever listen to him on the radio so maybe he does kiss Self's backside but in that article their really wasn't any of that.
The context was from the standpoint of he knows Cole and he knows OKC. Bill Self knows both very well.
He's a 2nd round pick and from Germany. It's not as big a story. In the LA times you think they had a bigger write up on the 1st round picks or WW? It's how it goes. Plus Cole is local Big 12.
He's never coached a day in the NBA much less the Thunder. Isn't that what you said about Self? But a article about a German 2nd round pick with quotes from Fran Frischilla is the lead story of the Thunders draft?

Yeah KU is too great for the MW. I mean, what major conference wouldn't want a program that averages 30K to home football games.

Jeez, you don't get it. Bottom line is you and some of your buddies were crowing about the death of KU long before it was even remotely close to being talked about. There were more threads and polls about the demise of KU as opposed to what was going to happen to OU. It was comical.
1) I said I wasn't worried and KU would be in a BCS. Once again, I was right.
The death of KU was a bit premature....don't you think?
2) KU avg over 50,000 in attendance last year for football. Over 40,000 average the last 5-6 years. Don't know where you get 30,000.
3) Uhhh, this is a basketball board. Who cares about football attendance.

For what its worth Tulsa paer,TV stations have a Pig love obsession.I have never understood why the Pigs get so much coverage from an Oklahoma paer and TV stations.Big Al Jerkens used to refer to OU,OSU,TU.and Arky as the Big 4.

I always complain in Wichita that they talk about WSU and KSU too much.
