Dante Buford to UTSA

A reunion that should be good for both parties. Best of luck, Dante!

good for him!! I hope he has a good time and gets to play a lot.

Good for him. I hope this works out for him.

He will only have 1 year to play, correct?

I'm reasonably sure it's two to play two. Dante redshirted his first season at OU, played the following season as a freshman and his third as a sophomore last year. Assuming he doesn't have to sit out next season under the transfer rule, he'll be a junior when he takes the floor in a UTSA uniform.

Why wouldn't he have to sit out?

He would, unless UTSA is a lower division school. I wasn't sure and I was too lazy to do the search, so I threw that in just in case. ;)

They're in the Southland Conference, I believe. Still D1 for basketball. I could be wrong but I think he's going to have to sit out.

You'd almost expect him to transfer to a lower level so he could play 2. Maybe there's a way but I can't think of one.

They are in Conference USA with teams like UTEP, Middle Tennessee, UAB and Marshall to name a few.

He may be applying to regain a year of eligibility for having to sit out as a freshman.

Could be. None of that was his fault.

A prep school counselor who didn't do their job, or the NCAA playing hard ball with a student athlete who thought he was taking the right classes to be qualified academically? Take your pick. Bottom line: Dante got screwed.
