Dean Blevins: Kruger calling a team meeting today

If Lon is calling a meeting regarding future transfers I would assume his personal meeting with McGusty following the end of the season brought nothing regarding his plans to transfer hence Lon was blindsided.

I question everything Dean reports because of how wrong he usually is.

I've known (and it sounds like several others on here have known) for over a week that McGusty was transferring, so I doubt Kruger was blindsided today that he announced it.

I agree with this

Come on Dean. Even I knew to look for 3-4 transfers.

I hope there is a team meeting today, and it really shouldn’t come as a surprise. Kruger needs to talk with the team and get control of the situation.

I’ve refrained from posting lately because if I can’t say something positive, i shouldn’t be posting, but I’m OK with the transfers so far. I liked Shepherd but he isn’t a high D1 point guard. He just isn’t. It’s the most important position on the court and to compete in the B12 we need a really good point guard..... like De’Vion Harmon next year. In the meantime, we need a good grad transfer or juco to plug the gap. I would have been happy if Shepherd accepted the backup role as his fate, but If he wants more playing time I wish him good luck.

It was apparent that McGusty and the coaches weren’t on the same page, and he never appeared too happy this season. Honestly, I never thought he played good defense and played out of control offensively..... often putting up wild shots. Sometimes a change is good for all parties.

Thirdly, I’m OK with Trae moving on. I’m ready for a more traditional point guard. A pass first, good defensive player. Someone like Quannas White or Jon Ontjes. I even liked Austin Johnson..... especially his senior year. Damn I wish we would have gotten Payton Pritchard from Oregon.

I have no idea if we have more transfers coming, and what kind of players we can sway just 3 weeks away from signing date. I’m fine with a roster makeover, but I’m skeptical of what kind of players we can recruit when it appears the program is in a state of chaos. I do like Bienemy and think he will start next season.... but I just don’t get Kuath. I just don’t.

If there are any “cancers” left in the locker room, this is a good time to process them..... things can’t look much bleaker. Kruger needs to take control and now is the time to be tough. He also needs to examine the program from a coaching standpoint and be objective on what needs to be done to improve the program. It ain’t all the players fault.....

Very well said.

I agree with everything, but even I had to look it up and was surprised to see Kuath is a highly regarded JUCO prospect.

I guess..... 6’9” and 173 pounds. Averaged 10.8 points and 6.9 boards at a very good juco.... and jucos play a lot of players. Shot 16.7% from 3-point range and 58.9% from the foul line. Had offers from BYU, Utah, Utah State, Robert Morris, and Utah Valley.

I’m not sure I consider that as highly regarded, but maybe teams backed off after he committed so early. I hope he’s a diamond in the rough, and I’m wrong.

Today also included a challenge. Take a look in the mirror, asking if you really want to play here and are putting in the work. Basically a challenge to others on whether they are truly going to be leaders or not and whether they want to be a leader of the team.

Just a few things I've been told for today. Nothing really earth shattering considering this needed to happen awhile ago.

Hits nail on head.

Highly ranked, probably mostly off potential though. I don't expect him to help much next year.

Assuming you're right (I've no reason to doubt you), that's very disappointing. I had hoped (perhaps even assumed) that the example Buddy and Isaiah and that group set would continue to influence our players and the program for two or three seasons at least.

He’s 195 lbs now. 7’ 5” wingspan. Shot blocker. Hopefully can add another 20 pounds.

The players that were freshmen that year have all improved and seem to work hard.

Which players that were freshman that year "improved and seem to work hard?"
