If Gregg Marshall is knocked out of the nit tonight.. I'd wager he'll be introduced by the 5:00 p.m. news tomorrow
Once again, I'm refraining from starting a new thread, but I'm looking at Wichita State's season on espn.com. Aside from an 83-69 loss at San Diego State (2 seed), the remaining 7 losses were:
UConn by 4
MVC Champion Missouri State by 3 at home, 5 on the road
MVC NCAA Tournament representative Indiana state by 7 in the conference tourney
VCU in a Bracketbuster by 1
UNI by 3 at home (beat them on the road by 18)
Best OOC wins: Virginia by 12 in Maui, Nebraska in the NIT by 27 (over The Mighty Doc Sadler, as some of you think of him)
On espn.com, the team stats are telling me two different things: on WSU's page, it says the Shockers are ranked 52nd in rebounds with 37.5/gm, and average 72 ppg. The national ranking of team stats, however, has WSU at 15th nationally with 79 ppg and 54th with 34 rpg. (37.5 would have them top 20).
I know the excuses will come out after this next part (the MVC is nowhere near Big 12 competition, we didn't have size or talent, etc. etc.), but consider:
OU ranked
255th in ppg, with
66.
OU ranked
327th in rpg, with
30.3.
Gregg would be an upgrade over Capel, no question. His record has improved each year, telling me he's winning with his own players. Maybe I'm settling here, but I think this would be a good hire...IF he can recruit at the necessary level for OU. Of course, you could've said the same for Turgeon, and that has worked out well.
