We've dropped all the way to #37 after today's performance. We were top 5 at the end of December. Whatever this team was doing on defense earlier......they've stopped doing it. Championships are won with guard play, defense, and taking care of the ball.

We need to find something quickly to remedy our defensive bleeding or else it will be a quicker exit in March than any of us want it to be. :(

Question...do they adjust for teams? Defending most of our dec teams was a bit easier than league

Totally agree. No need to ever have a bad defensive night. We played D much better last year.

I suspect some of our early rating this year was based on competition and offensives getting their feet underneath them whereas we started with a veteran team.

Bingo! This is a great stat. It proves what my eyes have been seeing. This team has proven they are capable on the defensive end. Just a matter of want to

Bingo, defense has been mediocre the past month. Thankfully the offense has been so good OU has been able to continue to win. Need to get the defense back.

Early-season defensive efficiency was inflated because teams were just missing shots at an unsustainable rate. Villanova got a ton of good looks and just couldn't make them. Now teams are hitting those shots at an unsustainable rate.

OU's defense is not #5 in the country, but I think it's better than 37th.

I think that is a very fair point. But the bad news is....teams are still getting too many open looks against us. We need to contest every shot that we can.....that will help improve our defensive FG% more than anything.

Two nights from now we play another good defensive team that's just getting better.

The non conference schedule was pretty strong.

Lattin getting in foul trouble hurt. He had some questionable calls against him today.

Was it really though? Currently only two of our OOC opponents are in the tournament according to Bracketology, and one of those (LSU) is as a late arriving 10 seed. The other being Villanova, who obviously is having a fantastic season.

I'd guess there are several teams that played more than two OOC games against current tourney teams.

One of our hallmarks the past two years on defense has been foul avoidance. Our opponents shoot the 12th fewest free throws per field goal attempt this season. Last season it was 19th fewest (and we had the 8th best defensive efficiency). So while I do think that the defense has been slipping, it is likely a bit of having the bounces go the other teams' way more than earlier in the season but quite a bit of not closing out as well on the shots that don't lead to as many fouls. We are going to give up some baskets around the rim if we're avoiding fouls. But we're going to keep our better players in.

Would be three teams if not for Hawaii's postseason ban. That was a really nice win.

Hawaii is banned for the 2016-2017 season. They are in as a 13 on Bracketology as well, so you're right on they would be in.

The latest Bracktology I see is dated 2/5, and Hawaii isn't in. The list may be different on some other predicted bracket.

Bracketology has UC Irvine in from that league, probably b/c they have the same conference record and a better RPI at this point.
