About the only negative is that they don't shoot the three as well as their opposition. Their numbers are skewed a bit by a 113-18 win over Waldorf.

We played pretty good basketball for the first 37 minutes. We just let them score 11 points at the end, making it look a lot closer than it was.

Everyone played well. Could have used some interior defense. After they couldn't buy a three in the first half, they hit 7 in the second half, mostly because we just backed off the three point line or didn't get out to it We slacked off on defense when we got a big lead.

Tatum was outstanding. In the second half when we were being threatened, it was Tatum, Madi, and Gregory that kept us out front by 20 until the last two and a half minutes.

Taylor hit her first four threes. Was one of seven after that. She missed wide open shots as they moved off her a bit late in the game. Tatum was 3 of 4 from three.

Lampkin really let down at the end when it didn't matter. She had some good plays on offense and defense earlier.

I agree. We played really well for the first three to three and a half quarters!! I'm not sure if it's the competition, but the level we have been playing at the last 3 games, I wonder if we could actually do well come conference play? we look like a much different team since Western Kentucky who I believe we undoubtedly would beat were we to play them again. I would love to see us knock-off Connecticut, like we came close to doing last year, but even at the level we are playing at now, Connecticut barring an incredibly off night still has this beat. It would make my freaking year probably if we beat Baylor though. Looking at the schedule the next five games could easily be lost, or a few of them could be won, if we continue to play well. it will be interesting. I'm hoping this team is going in the right direction though, finally!!!

Tough three. I don't know how to figure OSU yet. They have played some patsies. Their losses were to Oregon, Louisville, and Texas A&M. That isn't a disgrace. But, they don''t really have any good wins either. I wish it were in Norman with the return later in the year when we may have a better Scott.

Drake beat Iowa State. Having just watched Iowa State this weekend against Iowa, I can see that. Iowa State has Joens. That's about it. Didn't look good against Iowa's guards.

It was pointed out on the other board that maybe Ashlynn Dunbar graduate transfer on the volleyball team has been sitting on the bench, not sure if she has any eligibility left or not, but she played basketball in high school and averaged 13 and 9 her senior season... maybe she’s planing on walking on to the team.

What happened to Scott. Should have been a great game to get her some needed experience.

Good game. Tatum showed some offense. Good to see that. We have a lot of scoring capability. Best defense I have seen this year. Weak inside at times but we are going to deal with that the entire season.

Taylor got us off to a great start. Would like to see us get her open more often. Do things like screens, even double screens, penetrate and swing the ball to the opposite corner and drive and dish. She is going to be face guarded in conference play. Drake let her go free until she hit 3 in a row from deep.

Three good games in a row. Maybe a return to the dance in offing.

The team is 0-3 in true road games, if we can win some games on the road come conference time I think the dance isn’t out of the picture...

Mack had 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 blocks tonight... idk who on our team will match up with her, but a triple double for her isn’t out of question...

After beating Drake, I see that OU is up to #41 in the realtimerpi. Drake fell to #32. ACC is down to #32. Missouri State is still #3. Our next three games are against #1, #22, and #39.

Interesting scores:

Northwestern State 69

New Orleans 62
Abilene Christian 79

Stephen F. Austin 53
Houston Baptist 35 6:23 4th
Final: SFA 60-42

I don't think TCU is better than Baylor. Good record, but the lost to the only team on their schedule that can beat anyone, Texas A&M. We are the only decent team that Houston has beaten, probably should be about 200. UAB is better than 192. Difficult to get a read on a lot of Big Twelve teams. Really haven't been impressive except for that 8-2 record against the SEC. I don't know if that means the Big Twelve is better than they look, or the SEC is overrated this year.

After watching the Drake game twice, with a few restarts to make sure of what I saw at times, I think that the most critical people on the team are Ana and Maddie. They supply the energy, the starter that gets it going. But, Taylor has arrived as a pure scorer---and more.

I was impressed with what the recent three games have shown about Taylor as more than a scorer. Against Drake, she got some steals that got no attention because they came in a crowd, not easily seen by the announcers. She also passed well. Taylor has 20 assists this year, and only 7 (seven) turnovers. She also blocks out well, but she is so short that she still has difficulty getting the rebound. They do try to take her inside on defense.

It was interesting that she shot better when she didn't have a lot of time,, and she released quickly and in the flow. When she was wide open and all alone, she missed every shot. Put up a couple that were weird looking. We really don't need to screen for her. She is good at moving around the floor, and when everyone is a potential scorer, they can't follow her alone. She had some shots.

Gabby was a bit too far under the basket on some of her shots. She doesn't use the obvious shot. I have a feeling that Jackie has that in the back of her mind. Madi seems to have developed it this year. Madi is now good at stopping about twelve to fifteen feet out and hitting. Should open up her drives more. Gabby needs to develop that ten to fifteen foot jumper as well. Ana needs to learn to stop and pop. They get layups blocked, and they are 6-0 or better. Stop and pop,, force the defense out from under the basket. I did love a couple of Gabby's blockouts which were so effective that the ball bounced on the floor with only Gabby there to get it. I remember a Bill Russell presentation given in which he said if you are good at blocking out, you should never have to reach above your shoulders for a rebound. Of course, I've also seen him claim that he could rebound because he jumped so high.

Mandy is becoming much more aggressive. It is working to get others free. She is not an ace rebounder. But, she does make it easier for others to get on the boards with her blockouts.

Ana is the ultimate energy of the team. She is probably about the worst shooter we have among the guards. She also slips down, makes really wild passes, throws it nowhere, and gets going too fast and drives into a crowd. I think she leads the team in turnovers. But, she also leads in disruption of offenses, steals, and somehow finds a way to score 18 points. She didn't score much against Drake, but she kept the team moving. Her FT shooting is way down this year.

I think the names Madi or Maddie draws some bad officiating. Madi blocks a shot and gets called for a foul every time, even when she doesn't touch anyone. Maddie had the same problem, officials calling what they thought they saw because they didn't believe anyone could do what was actually done (like block a Danny Manning shot). Madi gets at least one bogus call per game. Madi doesn't shoot with a high percentage from a standing jump layup. Needs to be moving. Either that, or she needs to go up stronger. She can dominate when she decides to.

Tatum is arriving. She is beginning to play like I had hoped. She can be a defensive nuisance, and she does well directing traffic. These six are in the flow, and there are several who can score, not just one or two. Any of them can hit for fifteen. A couple can hit for thirty.

Lampkin is much better. But, she has brain freezes due to inexperience. She cost Madi a FT by just stepping into the lane after Madi was given the ball. She stepped back before the shot, but the official had already given the signal that she was in the lane. Needs to learn more about catching and passing. But, she did make a great defensive play and hit a couple of nice shots. Coming around.

High hopes for Liz joining the group. But, I don't think she'll be a major factor until March or April.
