Just got home from watching the first round match up between Dungee's Preston team against Latta. Kind of think of this game as a re-do of OU at Kansas State. Neither team has a kid that is D-1 material except Chelsea. However Latta is a well coached team and passed and screened to get nice open looks and led pretty much the whole game. Preston tied it, Latta had a chance to win, missed with six seconds left and Dungee took the ball the full length of the court and just missed a three to win, but put the game into overtime. Preston ended up winning the game, but came real close getting ousted.
Sherri Coale was in attendence and stood four rows down from me. I did not want to bother her, she had her hands full trying to watch the game in between high school girls asking to have their picture taken with her. She was very gracious and kind to do that.
Now lets get to our commitment. Chelsea is a big body guard who can play the 1-2-3 position. She is better at the 2 or 3. Handles the ball well, has good range, but in my opinion shoots way too may 3's. Granted this is the first time I have seen her so if some one has seen her several times, please correct me. At this level of basketball, she can dominate a game. Nice body control on drives and finishes at the rim well. She has very quick hands on defense, but she stands around a lot on the weak side, doesn't move her feet. I don't know if that is the level of competition she is use to, or just plain poor coaching. The offense runs through Dungee, which is okay, except you don't see a lot of movement from the offense, it gets too stagnant.
Over all for a Sophomore she is very, very good. She will get better in her weaknesses, which mainly are on the defensive end. I like she finds a man and blocks out on rebounds, that is good maturity. I really hope she stays by her commit and comes to OU. She will become a difference maker.
Her stat line tonight 4 personal fouls. She got her fourth foul with about five minutes left in the fourth quarter and played the rest of the game without fouling out. She played really smart.
11-19 from the field, 3-9 from BTA. 5-9 from the line. 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 assist, 4 turnovers.
She hit her first two threes to start the game, and had all 10 points in the first quarter.
