Fundamentally, T'ona is the best defender we have. She handles screens correctly, she is a very good on ball defender, seldom fouls, and never backs off. She needs to develop an offensive game but she is a good bàll handler as well as a really good defender.

Sherri has been doing a good job of using her in an offense/defense substitution in close games.

If she ever develop an offensive game (which I think she has her shooting form and stork is not broken) Watch Out

The concern with both Edwards and Carter is what do they do if Ortiz and Little lock down the PG/SG spots

I don't think that's got much of a chance. Carter's oozing with potential greatness and Edwards has come leaps and bounds from beginning of season. They will be the foundation for the next few years for Sherri and staff to build along.

Why is it every year about this time you all start discussions on which incoming freshman will take a starting spot from an upperclassmen?

So do you all think that she is good enough on defense to try to guard Sims? Have we even figured that one out yet?

Ortiz will start, trust me.

Name any team or individual who has. I really don't think the ability to guard Sims is a fair criteria on which to judge various players.

Unless Edwards gets an offensive game, I seriously doubt she will be the starting point next season. As far as Carter or Little, I really would defer an opinion until I see more of Little. Carter oozes with potential, but she really makes a lot of typical Frosh mistakes. But then, so did DRob as a frosh and she came around pretty well.

For Edwards to get more time and be a bigger factor she has to develop offensively. She passes up more 15 ft shots then she takes.

But, of course, Gioya won't be a freshman next year.

Darth,
1. I've talked to a number of people who observed fall practice. To a person, they all said Little looked like the best player on the squad. I don't think it's a stretch to think she might win the starting 2 guard position.

2. Ortiz is the highest ranked player signed since DRob. DRob started as a freshman, no player that highly ranked signed by Sherri has not started as a freshman. PG job is wide open.

I think Edwards is a great little player. I love her defense and quickness. If she can add an outside shot, whether she starts or not, she will be very valuable to next year's team. As a matter of fact, when you add Ortiz, Williams, Little and Penzo, to our other guards coming back, I don't think I've ever seen this much talent at the guard position for OU.

AParis started when she arrived then was relegated to a reserve for the remainder of her freshman year and soph year, although she was very productive with limited minutes. She was ranked from 5-8 overall in the 2005 class. So it all depends...maybe upperclassmen will be the choice again.

bay,
kind of a unique issue there. AP would have started at center if her sister was not in norman.

I'm glad you talked to a lot of people who observed fall practice. Want a cookie? I don't doubt Peyton is good player, anyone Gary Blair recruited has to be pretty good. But a lot can happen after this years seniors leave the court and players see the opportunities in front of them.

As for Ortiz, i could be wrong but she plays in the lowest division within the state. It really doesn't matter what ranking she is, that's pure opinion based polling and most is also done by AAU coaches and high school coaches putting high light videos every where.

My bigger concern is post play. Everyone wanted 2 post players to start and it won't happen, we are just too guard heavy.

Finally Drob was special. I'm not like most here and immediately proclaim greatness before they ever set foot on a college court. Ortiz may turn out great but the key to remember that most of you don't is PG like Stacey Dales and Danielle Robinson are 1 in a decade. Unless your Gino and UCONN. I never by into freshman hype until i see them play done college ball. Say I'm wrong all you want, I played at this level and had plenty of highly toted freshman not live up to the hype and others turn in to record holders.

Well said DarthSooner. Let the players get on the court and perform at the college level in a game before they get anointed. Potential, promise, and possibilities match "press clippings" until you get out there and actually do it. in the spotlight, before thousands of people, and against talented college athletes.

Darth,
Well you finally got one thing right. You earned a cookie yourself
The roster is overloaded with combo guards and not enough posts.
A shooting guard coming off transfer year and 3 sub 6 foot guards added in November,
not exactly helping the situation.
Add to that the potentially horrible injury news on Pierre Louis (hurt knee in state title game).

I'll be happy to be wrong.
But I bet Ortiz and Little are starters by January 1st.
