I was going to wait and post this after all the non con was finished but now seems like a good time to start this discussion.

simple who do you trust playing (getting min) for this team ...

** for me it is all about context ... do i fully trust Sam and Luke at the 5 .. no but for this team with this roster those 2 guys are the best options so I 'trust" them as being the guys that will play in the rotation(and we have to deal who we have)

I TRUST 7 guys right now fully (and at what spots 1-5)
the starters (top 4 speak for themselves)
Fears 1-3
Miles 1-3
Elvis 1-3
Moore 4
Godwin 5 (Plays hard and mostly plays smart)

off the bench
Taylor 2-4 (just a dog that does so many things well and plays extremely hard)
Luke 5 (he changes how team guards us because of his shooting )

Partial Trust
Goodine 2-3 i trust his shooting but he is overmatched on Defense and can't really get his own shot .. for me he is a situational player

Growing trust
Forsythe 1-3 (he quietly played very solid min last night ) he is a much better athlete then Goodine

Don't Trust
Wague 5 (he is athletic enough but he is out of position a ton on D and that doesn't play)
Cole 3-4 (he is just young and Moore/Tayor are so much better)

so this brings the question ... Jones / Nwankwo ?

if they can be better then Goodine/Forsythe (and all reports were that they both were) IMHO you have to play them ...

the question would be how long into the season is too long to mess with what OU has going ??

My personal opinion, Elvis disappeared yest and had his worst game in our big 5 noncon, would easily slot Jones above him and let Nwankwo take some minutes from Miles, if he is as good as advertised.

Forsythe sits and we let Jones spell more minutes for Moore and rest him a bit for the gauntlet of the SEC.

G - Fears, Miles, Nwankwo, Elvis, Goodine
G/F -Jones, Taylor (hyrbid)
F - Moore, Godwin, Northweather

Bold becomes my roster, with the un-bolded being matchup and game-feel dependent.

I think Moser should just take a complete open mind with the guards. Play the best dudes every given night. Just because it's not typical to give six guards some run each game doesn't mean Moser shouldn't. Open up the competition, it can only make them better. However, my unprofessional opinion is that Jones will not be back this year. He's not even practicing. So that really only leave Nwankwo.

With that being said, Nwankwo can only elevate this team so much. The conference season will go with the bigs.

Fears has been a given. It seems like either Elvis or Miles plays well most games but rarely in the same game. Moore has had a couple quiet games but I trust him. Sam … no. I mean, I trust him to play hard, but not to give us much against good teams.

Bench is a tougher call. Goodine is a great spot up shooter but hasn’t shown much else. Luke has been far better than expected but is coming back to earth. Taylor has certainly been our best bench guy after a slow start the first couple games.

It’ll be tough for JN to jump right in during conference play. His recovery seems to be miraculous, but it would have been great if he could have gotten his feet wet with at least a couple games against weaker competition. As is, he would be jumping right into the deep end. But if he’s close to being as good as was said this spring, there is definitely playing time to be had.

I trust everyone who is playing right now. Moore and Fears are the horses and we are going to ride them even when they are having off nights. We don’t know who else is going to have the hot hand from night to night. It varies and Moser has done a nice job of recognizing them and sticking with them longer.

We just have to live with what we have at the 5. All 3 guys are going to be needed in most games. It’s not a matter of trust with me, it about using them the right way based on what they can/can’t provide. The offense certainly isn’t going through any of them.

I agree just play the best on any given night. And that combo could differ from game to game, or depending on the match up.

But I will disagree on the record depends on the bigs. To some extent that’s true. But I think more so, even with the depth, the rest of the way spends on foul trouble more than anything else. Been the biggest potential issue so far. Came up in the BofA and again last night.

We’ve played 3 teams that were dominant over us on the inside and in total length 1-5. Yet we handle it pretty well in Atlantis and only out-rebounded by 5 last night. I think we can hold our own inside.

But we have certain guys, to Boulders point, that have to be the guys. Guys you can trust. Obviously Fears and Jalon but Miles is right there too.

Even with the depth, and the possible addition of Nwanko, gotta have those 3 pretty much each game.

I completely trust the 5 starters for SURE.

I also trust Taylor A LOT. He’s got some dawg in him. Can’t be rattled.

Luke has been so much better than I thought he would ever be. I trust him, especially when he has a good matchup on the defensive end.

I still trust Goodine. I know he struggles a bit defensively, but he has great intangibles on the offensive end and fills space beautifully.

I trust the starters at this point. You know what you're going to get from them.

Taylors inconsistent but that's okay. I do not trust Luke still. He's just such a liability on defense and when he's not hitting 3's that makes him a massive liability.

Goodine is okay.

Agree with your roster picks, Luke has been better this year (agree with others about his shooting) but still concerned defensively.

Total trust in Moser. Great coaching staff.

I do really like the current staff around Moser. He has had a lot of turn over but has done a nice job reloading with good coaches. That’s a mark of a good head coach.

Miles, Moore, and Fears are people I trust almost every game to score. Even if one has a down game the others pickup the slack.

Elvis isn't going to score every game but he does some things on defense and running the point that pick up slack there. He's also capable of scoring points if needed. I wouldn't put him in the category of the top 3.

Godwin at his best is a solid player. He is probably better than most fans give him credit for but I'm not sure he should be a teams best inside player he is ours. I don't expect him to do too many Oklahoma State like games but he'll still be solid on defense has 15 steals, 7 blocks and is the best rebounder on the team.

Taylor is the bench guy I think we can trust the most. Although his numbers aren't great yet he's shown that he can take it to the basket and has a decent looking shot. Solid on defense.

Goodine started pretty solid from 3 although missed all his 3s today and if he's not making 3s he may get out of the rotation pretty fast especially if Jones and Nwankwo get healthy.

After this is where the trust level goes down the most.

Forsythe seems real raw. Northweather has his shot that still seems a bit streaky but that's it. Wague hasn't really brought in anything so far.

Those are really the main guys that have played significant minutes. I would say my trust for the top 7 is fairly high at their roles right now.

I trust Dayton. Dude isnt going to turn it over much. He’s gonna defend. He’s gonna make an open shot and best asset is probably his passing.

Luke is iffy on the defensive end vs real good bigs. I trust him at a 70% level.

Starting 5 and Dayton goodine Taylor Elvis

Luke. Wague 50/50. Rebound defend

I trust the starters for sure...even though Sam can def be a liability at times. Off the bench, I trust Taylor. He is not as good as Soares was in conf play, but he's prob better than Soares was early last season. Dayton is really growing on me, although I expect to see his minutes shrink once conf play starts and/or either Jones or Nwankwo comes back. Luke has been solid, but he's got to be able to hit that open 3. I still like Wague prob better than most on here, and I think he needs to be used more in conf play against some of the athletic bigs we will see. ANd as far as Goodine, I want him to shoot it EVERY time he is open from 3. He may have a game like the last one where he goes 0'fer, but he will also have games where he can hit 4-5 3's off the bench. He is a sniper.

I really want to see what Nwankwo and Jone has to offer to this current team. I'd love to have both available, but the longer this goes, the likelihood of one of them redshirting increases.

This team should be 13-0 going into conf play, and should finish between 8-10 and 12-6 in conference. I'd prob guess either 9-9 or 10-8...which is a very solid year in this league, especially from a team forecasted to finish 15th of 16.

Taylor and Soares' numbers are almost identical in Non-Con. I do feel like Taylor has had more impact to this point though, but that may just be recency bias. Hoping he can have a jump in conference play like Soares.

Soares really didn't do his best till later in conference play you could probably argue he was at least our best guard later in the season. But Taylor hopefully won't have to do anything like that because we seem to have better starters at guard right now.

Feels like a good time to revisit this. Five points from the bench today, all coming long after the game was out of reach. Goodine is also helpless on defense. Since his two good games in Atlantis, Luke is averaging 2 pts and 2 boards and is a liability on defense. Wague has somehow gone from a guy who actually started a handful of games for a FF team last year to a guy who can’t beat out Luke as the backup 5. Forsythe clearly isn’t a factor, as I expected coming into the season.

It’s a broken record, I know, but I really wish we knew if either injured guy was going to play this season.
