GAME 20 - OKLAHOMA (15-4) @ TEXAS A&M (15-5) 8:00pm CST on SEC NETWORK

I'm old, but anybody remember Jerome Lane of Pitt back in the day? 6-6 and led the nation in rebounding. We had a guy named Cheese Davis back in the late 80s or early 90s that also was 6-5 or 6-6 and may have led us in rebounding. Dude was thick and muscular. Maybe someone's already brought up Ernie Abercrombie..
Choo Kennedy was another very effective rebounder at about 6-5. Everyone in OKC had a running joke about if he got his butt into you, you could never dislodge him or grab a rebound over the top of him. He was always against taller PFs.

Actually, yes. I was watching that La Tech game video that was posted earlier and Choo was a phenomenal rebounder. He had that wide load but he was getting up too. Fun teams, man.

It certainly is both. But it's like 70-80% effort.
Cmon… maybe against close to equal size. I’ve played rec ball for 40 yrs… coached HS.

I’m 6’1 215.. ish. Unfortunately I’ve been a “post” player for most of my time…

I’ve guarded a 6’7 195 guy, kicked his butt, but against a 6’3 240 guy I got schooled.

Believe me, effort wasn’t part of the equation.

Yes, ya can’t just stand around and the more effort the better chance you have but to dismiss physical and athleticism to only 20-30% is ridiculous.

William Davis as well… plenty of smaller rebounders but if everything is equal the bigger guy will win.

short and small are not the same thing ...
“Smaller” was relative to overall body size.

WD played 7’1 Greg Dreiling very well…

A 6’5 250 guy vs a 7’ 200 guy ya…. The 50lbs will definitely be an advantage. (Not talking about the WD vs GD comparison)

Of course there are times when you can't do a whole lot if they already have the position. And sometimes you simply can't move them when they are thicker than you, but then youve gotta meet the thicker guy higher and earlier up the lane, each time you can.

I'd revise my statement FWIW to 60-50% effort, 30-40% physical attributes, and 10% technique

lol ok, I’ll go with effort under 50%. Just my experience

Choo was one of those players you wish could never run out of eligibility. He made so many big plays with both his rebounding and scoring. When we beat Illinois State in the 2nd round of the 1985 NCAA tournament, their coach commented that Choo basically won the game for OU since the focus was on Wayman.

To your point about his butt, my then-girlfriend was watching an OU game with me, saw Choo, and said "Does he have s*&^ in his pants?" :)

Only Mo and Dayton played tough and hustle. Rest of the team are soft especially Northweather and Elvis. If Northweather played as aggressive as Dayton, he would get starter minute. Outside of Mo and Dayton, we are too soft to play against top tier SEC teams.

Taylor also does all of those things
