GAME 24 - OKLAHOMA (16-7) @ MISSOURI (17-6) 8:00pm CST on SECNETWORK

Caught up this morning...

Here is some of my biggest issues, that I don't understand.

-You have small guards who can't guard, fine, that is an NIL problem let's say I can almost let that slide. (Moser's recruiting fault)
-Nwankwo and Jones are hurt and could help the team, sure I'll even let that slide. (Portal era ruining their comeback, ok)
-Your starting big is Sam Godwin and the backups are "Foulie McGee" and "Layups are hard"...okay, let's say you are hamstrung with a sub-par roster (Moser's fault), aside from Moore/Fears...

Then how the hell on earth, can you come out vs. Missouri with that god awful offensive gameplan? Hand-off ISO with no spacing for a year we are supposed to be "lights out" shooting. He preaches 5-out spacing, and yes I saw iso ball ALL GAME. I truly think Moser is trying to be the smartest man in the room with 17 subs every 2 mins and one of the worst offensive gameplans I have seen coming into a "do or die" game.

PLEASE, anyone else who has coached before PLEASE weigh in. I just don't understand it, I don't. I have coached (and played) plenty and at least taken a rag-tag group of kids, played to their strengths, and won games by changing how we play. I truly believe you can take less athleticism, play to strengths, and win games. This team is the exact opposite of that and we get worse and worse on offense every week.

Defense is all effort as well. There was no effort, how do these guys not know how to play defense properly??? We sucked on defense. COACHING matters. I am just at a loss for words, this was one of the worst performances with no adjustments that I have seen in the last decade.

Guys just switching, knowing that is absolutely killing us. Guards playing "OLE!" defense the whole first half.

Changes must be made and if I was the AD, Moser would get that notification on the tarmac or bus depot. Whichever, with a ticket to a new location.

Get a damn coach in here. This is hard to watch as a fan. I want to be proud of my Sooners and their effort...not ashamed bc they look lost out there every week.

How can you play Northweather major minutes? He gets abused. He’s like a whimpering puppy in the paint. My daughter could do better in the paint. Play Wague and <sigh> Sam until they foul out.
He’s been more personally invested into getting Northweather developed as a player, than actually getting a center that is athletic enough to play in the SEC.

I don’t have much to add other than Moser’s offenses have been pretty terrible, with the exception of a few games, since he got to OU. He just can’t coach at an elite level. He’s been over his head for years now. And he’s wasted players time and the university’s money in the process.

You can’t have a team of non athletes. In the SEC you can have maybe one average athlete on the floor at one time. OU has 4. Our only real athlete is Moore. Our two most athletic guards are Fears and Forsythe. They both are average athletes.

Northweather isn’t athletic enough in the patriots or Ivy League. He’s a d2 athlete.

All of this. What is the offensive plan?

Our one semi-bright spot on offense has been Goodine. If you have him in the game you need to run some plays for him. You have to run him off some screens and get him some looks because he literally can’t do anything else well. If you don’t have him making threes you really can’t play him. But what does our village idiot coach do? Plays him major minutes standing around on the perimeter looking for scraps and getting killed on defense.

I think the key here, guys, is that we need to remember to enjoy the ride. Why be so pessimistic? It’s way too early to draw any conclusions. Let’s see how the season plays out. We are only 123 games into Moser’s tenure. Let’s wait till he gets his own recruits in place and really has a chance to develop them. You all must be miserable people to be so negative all the time.

Bwahaha!

I could see it happening today. Do i ultimately think they will fire him during the season? No. Would it be better during this era to go ahead and give the reins to someone else on staff and let them see what they can do from here on out? Does it help OU basketball to make sure we retain current players? I want a win dadgummit.

He showed signs of life in the Non-con. He had a nice attack on the drive and then skip in one of these prior games. I think Luke is our best option at center. Yes, he is very very soft but he provides spacing. Stop running pick and rolls or dribble hand offs and go to the 5 out space and pace. Press the whole game and speed up the tempo. I have defended Moser in the past but this situation is getting untenable. We have to try something different.

Mosier needs to go. But must games early we are getting open shots from 3 or layups. Godwin yesterday early fumbled a couple passes that would have been layups. So I think initial game plan works, players have some responsibility to execute. Now once adjustments are made by the opponents is when mosier falls behind. We just don’t seem to adjust quick enough and other team goes on an 8-0 or more run before we somewhat fix it. If that happens 3 or more times. You can easily loose by 20.

Agree with all that you said, but it all comes down to your first couple of points. It is a roster construction issue. Whether it's scouting or NIL (likely both).

The problem on offense has been the same problem we've had for years, even pre-Moser. When teams decide to switch everything (which they should against this roster), who on this team is able to break down the defense? Who can consistently get by their guy to cause the defense to collapse and start rotating? Fears was supposed to be that guy. He has all the talent in the world, but he's an 18 year old playing, at times, against 25 year olds (see Chad Baker-Mazara). We haven't made the tournament in the last 15 years, unless we had an NBA level guard on the roster (Trae, Buddy, Reaves). Fears will make the NBA, but unlike those three, he is going to make it based on potential not productivity. A new coach/voice is needed. And Joe C needs to look into getting a general manager/full time scout for the program. With the portal/NIL, scouting is a full time job with high school and college players.

No, Luke is not even close to our best option at center. Whatever benefit he gives you on offense (extremely marginal at best) is way counteracted by his ineptitude on defense. He’s not a P5 player.

1. It’s Moser not Mosier.
2. If the players don’t execute game after game who’s fault is that?

The entire team is allergic to defense, and that includes Godwin and Wague. Luke is the only one that can open up things on the offensive side out of the centers. Now what they should look at is playing big - Any two guards, Moore, Luke, Sam. If you're not going to contain the ball, don't have any rim protection, then at least crowd the paint with size.

Luke looks like a child out there playing against men. He’s not even close to our best option.
