I sat next to an attorney on a flight who had been investigating the Memphis situation that Cal ran away from. It was a very interesting conversation. Can't share all the details. But grade fixing; tremendous improvements in aptitude tests; problem academic transcripts getting magically repaired; shoe company agents funneling money to one and done type players as forgiveable loans in exchange for assurances to sign with that shoe company were all part of the conversation.
Enes Kanter played pro ball in Turkey in exchange for compensation. Most "elite" schools stopped recruiting when this came to light. He's a difference maker. He will be the best player in college basketball next year if he gets to suit up. He absolutely dominated the FIBA World Championships- averaging around 19 pts and 16 rebounds.
There may too much money for the NCAA to take Cal down. But it is probably only a matter of time. As other threads have indicated, the one and done rule has to go. Got to clean this stuff up.
This same investigator had good things to say about Josh Pastner- Memphis' new coach. Said the guy wants to do everything the right way and not take shortcuts. The attorney had no connection to Memphis. In fact, he was a grad of OU and OU law.
