Five years ago today in Memphis...

Yep, so much for the committee giving teams a break when their star is injured.
We didn't have anyone to blame but ourselves considering we limped into the tournament even after we were back at full strength. We got roughed up in Columbia, and struggled against O-State at home. Then dropped a giant turd against the Aggots in OKC.

We look at that UNC team differently now because of all the good pros it produced, but the overall #1 that season was Louisville. I believe UConn was #2 and Carolina was considered the third #1. That would make us the overall #6, which was just about right.

Win that game against O-State in OKC and maybe we get a 1-seed instead of Pittsburgh. Win that game against O-State in OKC and maybe we have more to show for Blake Griffin's career as a team than just a preseason NIT trophy.

Yep, that's true. We weren't exactly peaking.

Favorite moment from this game, Non-Blake Hits Side of Backboard Division: Austin Johnson, on a turned ankle, which was (as I recall) his mangled ankle that ate up most of his first two seasons as a Sooner, running down Eric Devendorf 3/4 court and blocking his layup from behind. Dorf is just like "WAIT WHAAAAT" and doesn't even get back to halfcourt after the next run-out.

I called in sick to watch this game and even if I'd been fired for it, I would have regretted nothing.
