Where do you guys go for Sooner football talk?

There does not seem to be an alternative - like this one - for football. And when I say alternative, I mean a place where the poster on poster violence is limited, the information is, well, informative, it's free and people with some degree of intelligence post there.

Is there such a place?

I use Scout. Though it is not nearly as peaceful as this site.

Yes. www.thefootballbrainiacs.com

They are completely free, a few of ex-football players including Ryan Broyles, that break down the game and post the info they get from their own sources. They have been doing great work and the comment section is very civil.

They have been supplying such good inside info, one of the pay sites got pissed and turned the OU admin against them who basically gave them a cease and desist on the info posting they were getting from the closed practices. (we think it was Hale) Just a shame that people have to try to bring down the open market. but they post lots of good stuff, especially during the season of good film studies and such. Definitely recommend it.

There is no such place for football.

There are a few under the radar boards, but really, the discussion is limited, and the info usually comes from one of the bigger boards.

Edit: Forgot about www.thefootballbrainiacs.com. A little different set up than a typical message board (more of a blog style), but there is some great info there. I suspect it won't take long for the negative comments and such to creep up there as well though.

I've been seriously considering putting up a football and off-topic board here.

Obviously, the site name doesn't change (nor does the header) and hoops is still the priority, but they would be there for this group of people we have here to discuss things other than hoops if they like.

Not sure I can keep up with it moderating-wise (I hate moderating lol), but I'll probably give it a shot.

There are no decent football message boards. There are too many trolls and ne'er do wells who will show up. With a few exceptions who are banned elsewhere but not here, this board does a good job of keeping the riff raff out and the conversation civil.


The only way I could see it working here is limiting access to the football board to those with 500 posts already. If you can make it 500 posts on the basketball board being civil and not trolling, I think you're unlikely to cause problems on the football board.


As for an off-topic board, just a bad idea in general. Those ALWAYS seems to devolve into nastiness, even moreso than football boards. That will definitely attract the wrong crowd, as you'll get a bunch of people who aren't even sports fans and have severe psychological issues that post A LOT on message boards.

As long as you keep this site title the same, you'd be okay. Most all the moron, idiotic football posters on other boards could care less about other Sooner sports, basketball included.....and it seems like there are A LOTof those types...or at least they seem to be the most vocal. I personally enjoy all Sooner sports and can't imagine life without Sooner basketball!! I didn't get my degree from OU (went to OCU) but have been a season ticket holder in football for 15+ years and attend as many b-ball games as I can possibly attend.

I think so, but if you bring them over for football they may choose to vomit their "knowledge" (aka ignorance and vitriol) on the basketball board as well.

I MUCH prefer this place to any of the football boards. Landthieves is the best football board, though, if you can ignore all of the vitrol and idiocy that comes with the football crowd no matter where you go. I pay for Sooner Scoop still, just because I like the change of pace every once in a while.

For the most part, you won't find this kind of board for football fans because it's a different kind of fan (and brings out the lowest common denominator).

It doesn't have to be. OUhoops could always shut it down if it got out of hand or simply ban people on a temporary or permanent basis somewhat liberally.

I use OUinsider. I personally have no problem with the monthly fee but what I do is skip every third season. If you are not a member, you can usually get a free season to rejoin. I might just switch to the brainiacs once this my pay year is up.
