Former UK Player Speaks About Gillespie

sounds like sour grapes. The guy barely played and was bitter

I didn't take it that way, but that could certainly be the case.

Seems like if he was bitter this would have come out voluntarily instead of appearing on a tv show and asked about it.

Some of the stuff he said happened the host of the show knew about it too, because he was asking Krebs "is it true..." type questions.

In 2007, when Gillespie was in his first year at UK, I spoke with an aTm basketball fan at the Big 12 tournament. He said it was pretty well known fact Gillespie loved the sauce and loved to hang out in the campus bars.

As good of a coach as I think Gillespie is, I don't really want him in Norman. We don't need that kind of image. And, what happens if he gets into some sort of legal trouble and is fired? Then where would we be? I'd prefer to steer clear of him. Let's go after Gregg Marshall at Wichita State.

It didn't seem like sour grapes at all to me. He seemed to be pretty objective in his assessment.

I was on the Clyde bandwagon, but after seeing this, just don't know.

I am a huge proponent of Gregg Marshall and have been since 2007 when he was at Winthrop.

I just think he is hiding his hatred well. I am skeptical anytime a no name player comes out like this against a coach.

To be fair I don't think this is just one spurned player with an agenda. There must be a lot of people that "hate" Billy Gillespie because this is hardly the first time such information has come out.

I like Gillespie and one of his staff members at A&M is a close friend of mine...i never heard of this type of behavior from him there...

Maybe the pressure got to him at UK though, you never know...

Some of the stories about Sampson are very similar as far as having players play injured so i wouldnt take too much from this...

Honestly some of this odd behavior could be due to the sauce. I don't mean that in a derisive way either. Addiction can cause people to act in ways that they never would. If he's gotten his life in order then this may no longer be a problem.

Gillepsie's style isn't made for a school like Kentucky, however you take a non top tier BBall school and he'll have boys playing like men. If he could control his addictions he would do a great job at Oklahoma, probably remind many of Sampson.

I agree. If people watched that whole video a lot of things the guy said I think are the same as Sampson. He said Billy struggled with coaching top recruits. It seems like that was Sampson's downfall at OU. Said the guy just pushed, pushed, pushed and got the most out of average talent level guys. A lot like Sampson.
I don't think the guy had an agenda at all. Heck at the end he said he'd have his son play for Billy G.

Seems like he'd be a great get. People here in Wichita love him. He's a hard-nosed high energy coach and seems to be a really good recruiter. Loves athletes and gets after you. I think he'd be a great coach for OU. And an attainable one that wouldn't cost a fortune.

It's not coaching, it's personnel. Idk if Marshall can get the personnel and idk if Gillispie has enough credibility to get the personnel right now.

I'd rather have a take charge coach like that than a coach who coddles his players with Jay-Z mix tapes. Billy G's worst coaching jobs still ended up with his team in the NIT. I'd love to be headed for the NIT right now.

And the cue the replies about Gillispie and his DUI's yada, yada, yada. IMO, a drunken Gillispie would still coach circles around Capel. Flame away.

I just want a coach that can recruit and win. I don't care what his style of play is, just win and make the ncaa tourney consistently.
