FOW and POW

Peyton has been consistent this season so far. Much more than last year. She has made a big impact.

She's playing like a senior that wants to go out with a BANG!!! Really pleased with her play.

When was the last time we had the POTW and the FOTW? Wow!

Remembering her first games, I can hardly credit how far and how fast Nancy has progressed. Gives me great expectations.
I'm most happy with Maddie's consistent play. I hope she uses it to keep begin more selfish and aggressive and starts leading.

Does the Big Twelve give a POW award to a freshman?

Right now, I think we have four players playing at a level which would allow us to be competitive with nearly everyone in the country---maybe not UConn: Nancy, Maddie, Peyton, and Vivi. They make good things happen on defense, and, except when Vivi is trying to put the ball on the floor, they are productive offensively.

I have been stunned at how quickly Nancy has come along. I expected this as a sophomore. She is about where I thought she would be in mid-junior year. I thought there were more developmental issues than there were. Instead of having to adapt to D-1 ball, it seems that Nancy is better off when on the floor with players who know what they are doing and a team that is all on the same page. I think she is doing better than if she were back in highschool. Now, it is just a matter of everyone figuring it all out.

I really hate to lose Peyton and Maddie when we have someone like Nancy with whom to work. Hopefully, Maddie returns. As they see how to play with Nancy, their basketball smarts seems to be kicking in.

We need Gabbi, Gioya, and TT to learn to play in this system. Chelsea has it, if she will slow down. Her miscues are basic---traveling, double-dribble. LaNesia seems to get the idea of how to operate in this system than do Gioya, TT, and Gabbi. Rather than forcing the ball, we are a lot better off playing defense and taking advantage of the chaos that Nancy instills. TCU fouled her twice before we took a shot, trying to box her out.

Practice free throws.

I agree with everything you said... I'm sure Nance will have a game where some of us will shake our heads, but basted off her last few games I think she's reminding me of how Griner was her freshman year with BU and they ended up making a final four run... Not saying this team will make it to the final four, I'm just pretty excited, the game vs Texas and Baylor and K state could tell us a lot...

As much as I was unhappy with last season, I am happy with this season.

We still are not shooting great from the field or 3, or the free throw line, and our rebounding is average, but there's definitely something going on with this team in a good way.

There is a fight and a determination to do better that is greater than the last couple of years, I think. I think from coaches on down to the last bench player everyone is working harder to be the best they can be.

I can't see anyone who is mailing it in.

I have some pretty high hopes for this team. We are going to be competitive and work hard if the games so far is an indication. That can lead to great things.

Once Mulkey learns to protect her rebounds from the back side and gets in a real groove with the pace and tenacity of the college game, she is going to make a big difference. She clearly created problems for TCU's bigs.

I am most happy to see Vivi rebound (no pun intended) to more like herself against TCU. She and Mulkey are a one-two punch in the mouth and I don't think either one is near their potential yet.

Just keep on improving is what I'd say to the girls. Just keep working. Good things happen.

On a tangent, I really thing Sherri's recruiting is getting stronger over the last couple of years.

Really excited to see the game tomorrow night. I think it will be a good test.

I think it's mainly a confidence thing! The first few games this year, she looked pretty much like the high school clips I saw. But one of the players mentioned in interview that Nancy really soaks up criticism (both good and bad) and learns from it. She is already rebounding so much better than the beginning of the year!

Her biggest issue in the future to me, is bulk and strength, and I'm not sure she will ever be that strong but she can take her strengths and improve them. She really is quick for 6'9"! I expect great things from her in her career!

I agree. She may not increase in strength, but I hope she works on her hand strength, where opponents can't take the ball a way, and helps with her rebounding. Really good foot work, and does a good job of finding open spaces.

Nancy needs to learn to move her feet- She has solid footspeed for her size but doesn't move them all that well yet. She doesn't have to be THAT much stronger because she is SO much taller and longer than anybody that she can make up for a lot of that- if she moves her feet.

I am looking at this year and next. Aslong we have Manning next season, we will be loaded. Nisi is starting to show me that she could guard very quick guards in the big 12 so we can hide Gabbi next season to keep her in the lineup. And I also think Maddie will run more point next season when Gabbi needs rest. Bottomline, I really like our Team as well- and Mulkey could realistically be the biggest recruit in Sherris time at OU because she allows us to compete against the great teams. Can she be Courtney on Offense? No. But she can be the best defender in the history of the program and that really changes the outlook for this team. The future looks good.

I think she's already improved on hand strength, and grabbing the ball, just from the beginning of the season. She really looks a LOT different just in a few months time.

But you're right, she needs more work and I have no doubt that she will continue that improvement!
