Freshman check-up with James, Odomes

The next Cousins/Hieid combo?
Do they have a higher ceiling?

I've personally only seen highlight reels, but my guess is somewhere in the middle of those two guys. Can't wait to watch them live tomorrow at the scrimmage.

These 2 and McGusty are going to be a stellar perimeter group for years to come.

Please anybody that can post a review of the scrimmage. I'm driving up to the football game but will not have enough time to see the scrimmage. Why aren't they televising any practices this year?

My favorite part is when Kruger answers this question:

On if the duo will play an important role on this year’s team:
“Very much so. Both are ready to step in and play, there is no question about that. Again, they are doing it in a support role of Isaiah and Buddy here initially. But that’s valuable experience. The quality depth off the bench is really important. That’s one thing that we lacked last year, in terms of production. As a group, we should be much deeper and much more capable off the bench.”

I don't expect Kruger to say anything negative but I also don't think he is the type to overstate things. Therefore, I think these guys will both contribute as true freshman. That is huge, especially when you consider OU has Walker with notable experience. Perhaps part of the reason Booker left is the talent of these two guys?

From what I gather, Booker didn't really have a choice about leaving. It had nothing to do with Odomes and James.

With all of the talk about defense in the interviews, which of these two plays the better D?

From what I have seen in the couple of practices I have attended, playing good defense is important to these two freshmen guards. They WANT to play good defense. They WANT to learn from the coaches and the seniors. Combined with their high level of athleticism, this DESIRE should enable both players to become good defenders during their OU careers.

As far as being the next Cousins/Hieid combo, that is very possible, except James/Odomes are bigger and stronger as freshmen, compared to Cousins/Hield as freshmen. Just like Cousins/Hield, these freshmen work really HARD in practice.

Also, as fans, we should enjoy the attitude of these guys. Here is a quote from Odomes:

On his favorite part of being a student-athlete at OU:
“The fans. Also everyone is really supportive anywhere you go around campus and in Norman. We have people who attend practice daily that are just real supportive of everything.”

They seem like great kids - ala Buddy and Cousins.
