Gallon defends self against NCAA investigation

Story broke from TMZ March 18.

Hausinger was fired March 26 according to federal regulators.

Yes, I rechecked the dates and you are correct.

I wonder who TMZ is protecting. Someone gave them a tip of the money transfer. If not Hausinger, who? It wasn't Gallon. It wasn't Gallon's Mom. It wasn't Oak Hill. Most likely not anyone at OU. Who else would have had knowledge of something like that and why would they contact TMZ if not for money or to punish Gallon or to get OU in trouble???

Someone who works or worked with Hausinger. It has always felt like that was the most likely source, and Hausinger's reasons for contesting his termination seem to confirm that.

What do you think the motive was?

Dunno. My guess would be that it was someone who did not like Hausinger for one reason or another.
You could be right but it would seem most likely if they were trying to hurt Hausinger, they would spill the beans to his boss rather than to TMZ.

Willie and TMG!!!

TMZ will pay you for the infomation...so you hurt Hausinger and get some money out of the deal.

Could it have been TMG? He apparently asked Capel to be paid because he heard other players were getting paid. TMG and Tiny were buds, TMG appears to have decided to bail on OU after the 1st of the year...

Just throwing it out there...I'm not saying it was him but it is intriguing to consider.

TMZ says they have paper evidence to back up their claim....seems very unlikely that TMG would have a copy of the deposit slip/transfer advice. Much more likely to be a co-worker of Hausinger that had a grudge against him.

This assumes that someone at Merrill Lynch would know that Hausinger would get in trouble for making a loan to Tiny's Mom. That brings up a couple of questions, was the loan against their company policy? If it wasn't, Hausinger would have nothing to fear. If it was, is that why Hausinger was fired? If it was against company policy, why would a guy risk his career to loan $3,000 which is easily traceable on the company's books?

"he heard other players were getting paid"....weren't the other "players" Vince Young supposedly? Telling him how much he got at UT?

I would be interested to know how Hauzinger and Tiny knew each other for him to give the loan? I believe Hauzinger and OT started calling/texting in March or April of '09. Hauzinger was in Norman in July '09 according to his tweets. He then loans Tiny Gallon's mom $3k in August '09. It would be much better for OU if Hauzinger hadn't been connected to OU before the loan.

He got fired 8 days after the TMZ report came out so appearently if it was a co-worker with a grudge it worked. Bank/Investment firms are very sensitive to negative publicity and don't like being associated with any scandal. So it would be easy for a co-worker to know at the least it would be embarrassing for Hausinger to be in a TMZ report.

Rather than be a big conspiracy theory type deal....the motivation for a co-worker just may have been to get a few hundred dollars for the story and the co-worker did not intend for Hausinger to get fired.

The main point in my post above was that the TMG hypothesis is far fetched and very unlikely to be true.

If you work for any large company you know that if you leak something like this -- seeming impropriety in the core business, or lots of negative pub associated with the company -- it will result in their firing. In this case it was probably someone practicing Klingon advancement since the corporations use HR to create reasons to fire people (not leaks, too hard to control).

Until now, I have believed that Hausinger got fired for his involvent in the loan to Tiny's mother. Now, that doesn't seem to be the case. It appears Hausinger was fired from Merrill Lynch then came out with the story of Tiny and his Mom just to see if he could cause trouble for OU.

^^^Why?

It should be illegal to withhold a transcript for failure to pay tuition.

Oak Hill should be ashamed of themselves putting people in this position.

You're kidding, right? That transcript was the only reason Oak Hill received the tuition the Gallons owed. If the school had released the transcript without receiving payment first, I'm pretty sure the family would have just forgotten about the tuition bill.

This is why we have public schools. Oak Hill may be non-profit (I have no idea), but without getting the taxpayer dollars, it's pretty hard to pay the bills unless everyone pays their way.

If you are going to extend credit to somebody it is your responsibility to approve them up front. If Tiny's mother did not have the ability to pay they should have denied admission. But they wanted to win a few basketball games so they ignore her ability to pay and instead blackmailed them on the back end withholding his transcript. That should be illegal. There are numerous remedies to collect an outstanding debt. Withholding a transcript of a student because the parent has not paid tuition is extremely unethical. Take her to small claims, get a judgment and enforce it.

If they did not tell them the repercussions up front, then I'd agree with you. If Tiny's family knew what would happen if they did not pay in an installment plan, then it's probably a losing argument, but not one that isn't without merit.
