Here are some things that caught my attention at the game. For those of you who were there, please add anything that I left out.

1. NC Central shot 60% from the feild for most of the game. The little white kid with the tatoos was on fire until we stopped helping off of him and made him drive. Then he started shooting airballs. He also talked a lot of smack. Nick Thompson told him to shut up. I was suprised neither of them got a tech.

2. Nick Thompson played his best game of the 3 so far. Cade played his worst. Cade spent too much time being a coach on the floor instead of just playing the game.

3. The refs tried to give this one to NCCentral. We didnt even get into the 1 and 1 until 30 seconds left in OT, even though we were pounding it in to Fitzgerald repeatedly until HE got into foul trouble. It was like 9 to 2 in fouls the last 10 minutes of the 2nd half. 2 fouls in the first 15 mins of the 2nd half at home is pretty bad. Then to top it all off, one ref tried to hand them the game by overuling a shot-clock violation which should have given us the ball. They gave it back to NC and we stopped them again.

4. The defense in the 2nd half and OT was the best yet this year. Honore did a good job on that end. He is better than Fitz on D. Fitz was our only offense most of the night though. I wish Capel had gone offense/defense with those two late in the 2nd half and we might have won in regulation.

5. The 3's just didn't fall tonight. They fell vs Coppin St. If just a few of them had fallen it wouldnt have taken OT.

6. I was proud of this team once again for sticking together and gutting it out. On Monday they played as a team and played well. Tonight they did not play well, but I would be that last years group would have lost that game.

I like this team. They may lack talent and size, but they play hard.

I agree with everything except I think the refs weren't that bad...we did get a bunch of FTs in the first half.

I was there, and I have to say I chuckled when the OU crazies tried to get everyone to stand up. Not knocking them at all, I appreciate their efforts, but old people all around me just stared at them with intense disdain.

anyway, that little white tattoo guy pissed me off frequently, and that coach should have gotten a technical for being 10 feet out on the court. What the hell was that guy's problem?

anyway, thank god we won. We couldn't have played much worse tonight, and we still won. That's a plus.

True. We got all the calls in the 1st half. I am glad we won, and it makes it even sweeter that that Clement kid didnt win. He was taunting the crowd and our players after every shot he hit. I couldnt stand him.

The officiating wasn't that bad. There was about 2 or 3 fouls that should have been called on them. We just couldn't hit shots. I really don't feel we played all that bad tonight, we just couldn't buy a basket. Maybe we shot a few too many 3s. Especially Pledger. But he made some key shots late.

The call at the end of the game was horrible horrible but overall the reffing wasn't that bad. I think they were somewhat inept (those two free injury timeouts Central got was a joke imo. How can a guy hold up the game for a few minutes then not even being forced out as a sub or them burning a timeout?). We got a lot of nice calls early on and overall they called some ticky tack stuff both ways.

This team is fiery at least, lot of desire not sure how good they will be but they will go down swinging.

Also Calvin Newell loves the fans more than any other player I've ever seen in person in my young life.

The officiating was fairly decent, however, since I was one of the "OU crazies" I'm still not sure about that Shot-Clock violation in the final minute of regulation. And oh well, if the Older fans don't want to stand up and support the Sooners as long as you and I cheer that's all that matters to me... also, PS, this is the last time I wear a flipping fish on my head lol

Can anyone who watched the game on TV explain what happened with the non -shot clock violation where Cade dove out of bounds and saved the ball?

The officials ruled that Cade had possession of the basketball under the goal so when he tried to save the ball, it reset the shot clock. Borderline call at best.

They ruled that Cade Davis had possession so the shot clock was reset. Since NCCU had the ball when play was stopped they got the ball with the shot clock turned off.

Now that I'm back from the game and have a cup of hot tea to replenish my voice, I'll post my thoughts.

Positives:

-Andrew Fitzgerald. Yes, he had four fouls, but that was because he was one of only a couple of players who played like they wanted to win. I'll take a 22-point effort any day against any team.

-Defense, especially second half/OT. Though there were officially no shot clock violations (grumble grumble :ed), there were three times where we recovered the ball as the shot clock was expiring. And we were able to draw a lot of fouls, even getting one of their players to foul out. That leads to...

-Free throws. 23-27 from the charity stripe is not something to blink at. I thought we did an excellent job taking advantage of the opportunities afforded us.

Negatives:

-Penetration. We could not get into the paint to save our lives. We would literally pass the ball around for 25 seconds, shrug, and jack up a three. Which, again, leads to...

-Shooting beyond the arc. 4 for 22 on threes is not something I want to see from any team. If you remove our three-point shooting, we went 18 for 45 (40.0%), which isn't great but isn't bad either.

-Fans, myself included. Seriously, guys? When our guys have the ball and the only chant that can be heard is the other team's bench going "DE-fense! DE-fense!"... it's embarrassing. I understand it's hard to cheer for a team when they're not playing well. But we as fans were DEAD today. Let's try to remedy that Thursday against TSU. And let's get more butts in the seats!

Thank you for listening to Travis' mini-rant. I now return you to your regularly scheduled ranting. :OUbball-logo:

the worst job of the refs was the non call on the 10 sec violation to end the first half .. the shot clock was down to 24 and the ref didn't make the call ... now cam scored so it didn't matter .. but it was horrible ..

also pledge should have gotten FF with about 4 min left us down 1 on a drive and a no call on the block ..

Actually, they ruled that it was a shot-clock violation and our ball. THEN the blonde dude overuled both the other officials and talked them into looking at the monitor, and changing the call.

And yes, it was not the only borderline call. When we pressed and they didnt get it accross before 10 seconds and the refs just weren't paying attention. If the LNC had been full, people would have been all over the refs and maybe they would have made some calls, or at the very least they would have taken some heat and maybe Capel would have been more fired up when he saw an opposing team with only 2 fouls late in the game.

But it doesnt matter now. Our team overcame it all.
