Gatorade POY watch

Since I haven't heard anything to the contrary, I think OU will make the list.

Really hope you're right, Norm. With the players who are already here, and those we've got on the way, Cox would be a real program-changer. Hey, maybe she would be in any case.

I hope we can discern something from the way she lists that 9.

She is a program changer.

While I agree with you, whether we are listed 1st or 9th, I don't think we can really read anything into her preferences. I just want to keep making the cuts until she announces she is going to be a Sooner!

The schools are listed alphabetically, although UConn, SMU and UCLA aren't really sorted alphabetically, just alphabetically per the contracted forms.

WARNING:

I am about to engage in some wild speculation here about Cox.

This speculation is based upon having two daughters of my own, one who played college soccer, and upon having coached 17 and 18-year-old girls in soccer.

It is also based upon her stated final 13, her home location, the fact she has 3 sisters and Type 1 Diabetes.

By all reports, this was Lauren Cox's final 13: Uconn, Texas, OU, Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke, UCLA, Baylor, Louisville, Kentucky, S. Carolina, Tenn., SMU.

She has now cut that list to 9 and those 9 have not been acknowledged by anyone, especially the Cox family.

So here it goes:

SMU is in because of mom.
Texas, Baylor, OU are in because of proximity.

That leaves 5.

These schools are PROBABLY out or near out because of either her family, illness or proximity:

UConn.
S. Carolina
Duke
UCLA

That leaves Louisville, Kentucky and Tennessee, all of which are doable and so I say they are in.

That means we have to take two from the list of those that are likely out.

I chose UCLA and Duke.

I think he final 5 will be Baylor, SMU, OU, Louisville and Tennessee.

Final 3: Tennessee, OU & Baylor.

I think 33 % percent change of her selecting us is pretty good right now.

Unless you've had a daughter with a disease like Diabetes, you don't know the strain it can put on a family, especially a family of girls.

BTW, Louisville gets knocked out after the final 5 because who in the hell would be in their right mind and want to go to school in Louisville?

Interesting speculation. I have diabetes, have had since I turned sixty. For me, it hasn't been a problem. Others call it a nightmare. I don't know what the difference is. But, the only thing that would be a problem for me is foreign travel because of the need to take along sufficient supplies of test strips, insulin, etc. So, I might presume that the diabetes might not be a problem.

I think SMU is there for two reasons: 1. Mother, 2. She may want to build a program rather than be a cog in the wheel, which I thought someone said was of interest to her.

I eliminate Baylor because she doesn't seem like a Mulkey type of kid. I tend to think the UConn isn't a fit because it is established, and because I don't think she and Geno would mesh well.

I get the impression that Duke, Notre Dame, and Stanford might be included because of their academic reputation. But, all three are a bit distant for a family.

Nobody wants to go to Louisville, Lexington, or South Carolina if they have seen them. She has lived in a twenty-first century city.

I tend to think that OU may have an advantage due to: 1. the fact that she has visited on her own. 2. I think she would like Sherri. 3. I think I heard that she and Nancy Mulkey were friends, and the presence of Nancy would mean that she wouldn't have to play post.

I think she would like Texas because of Austin and the fact that it is a pretty good school. They've been down a bit, and she might like to be the one that brought them back.

So, I lean to SMU, Texas, and OU. I'm probably wrong because I have no idea what is important to her.

I'm sure her friendship with Mulkey is important, but she also seems pretty close to Katie Lou... I've felt like Cox would be a sooner from day 1, but I think her final 5 will be OU, TU, SMU, Uconn and Duke. Lauren has been to back to back Duke camps... But if you guys think Mulkey is bad, you should listen to a Duke lose post game... yiks!!!

Some seem to think that Geno doesn't have to work to sign players. I say he isn't getting out worked by anyone.

Final 9... UConn, Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Louisville, A&M, and Tennessee.

I'm not surprised by any who made the list. I'm just glad OU is on it. I think it will be important for OU to do well in the NCAA tourney and for Sherri to spend as much time as possible building a relationship with Lauren and her family.

I was close. South Carolina surprised me.

It was posted In a Uconn article, but I found it on the Uconn message board... Cox and another Outstanding young guard from Texas United with a unorthodox jumper recently took in the Big 12 championship game.

She does know 3 players going to OU. Mulkey, Dungee, and Llanusa. That might make her feel more comfortable. Also her sisters are suppose to be good. It would be nice to get all 3. I could see Holmes going to UT and Cox at OU.

The more I think about this, the more I think Cox is our game changer when it comes to who we already have on roster and who's coming in. She's the one. There's not a doubt in my mind.

We MUST land her. She does seem like the Sherri prototype.

The diabetes thing might be a big factor. She has Type 1 and has to wear a monitor, except in games. As I've said before, my daughter played soccer with a girl who had to do that. It requires a lot, lot of attention when involved in an athletic endeavor. I'm not saying she can't play or anything like that, or that it would hinder her (although it could in a nanosecond). It simple requires constant monitoring and adjustments.

Having mom, dad, sisters in the crowd as well as a very attentive coaching and program staff will be critical. So proximity and the type of people we have in our program will be bonuses for OU.

I can't see UConn, Baylor or Louisville. Tennessee is worrisome in my book. South Caroline in between those groups. I don't think A&M will meet her needs. I think Cox is very similar to Peyton and Kornet. Should give us an edge.
