Figured we should start a thread for other games and miscellaneous college hoops talk for this season. Not a ton of great matchups so far (the sport needs to do a better job of opening night/week), but it’s going to be really fun watching all the great freshmen. There are the obvious big 3 guys, but they aren’t the only really good ones in this class.

Pokes beat ORU to start the year. Seems like it was similar to our game vs St. Francis

We play both of these teams this year

Arizona State handled Southern Utah

On Monday

Marquette beat Albany 80-53. They play Southern tonight

Wake Forest beat American 88-74

All the SEC games were blowouts except for Arizona beating Florida 93-87.

And Auburn winning in OT over Bethune-Cookman 95-90

One of my friends at work is a Mizzou fan and we just discussed Luke Northweather. I had forgotten to check to see how he played Monday. It's too bad none of the sports apps let you filter scores by "guys who used to play for your team" so it would be easier to keep tabs on all of them. :)

I didn't watch, but he had an ok stat line.

Wish he would have stuck around. He definitely helped the team at times last year. Wonder if he wanted a bigger role. Maybe he’s getting that at MU. Even though I doubt he plays 23 mins during conference.
If Atak makes 3s he seems like he'll be way better in that type of role than Northweather. Problem with Luke is if he wasn't making 3s he was just not athletic enough for the SEC. We'll see with Atak though.

I was about to come with the Duke Miles stats. That's pretty solid all around with the 4 boards 9 assists, 3 steals. He may end up doing alright for Vandy.

This KU guard seems special. I'm interested to see how things go tomorrow against legit competition. I can't remember the last time a guard had this buzz heading into the season.

it's been a very long time. Most scouts say he is the best guard prospect in at least a decade. I've seen people say that he has the tools to lead the NBA in scoring one day. and potentially average 20, 5, and 5 this year.

this is looking like a special draft class the BYU kid looks like a potential superstar also ..

and boozer is going to be a very good pro in the worst case

Off the top of my head, would probably have to go back to Wiggins in terms of guards. Interestingly for the same team and coach.

Yeah, would tend to think the BYU kid would be unanimous #1 prospect most years.

Boozer probably isn't as good of a pro prospect, but wouldn't be shocking if he was the best college player this year.

Yea and the interesting things is that Self has said a few times that Peterson is more ready to come in and be successful than any freshman he has ever coached, including Wiggins. I think he said that his game is just more developed and he is more complete. I have read some coaches also use Kobe's name in describing his game. He will be fun to watch -- but hopefully the rest of the team isn't good enough for them to be a title contender.
