General college hoops game thread

Nope, I don’t. Which is why I said it’s stupid to make a dumb, overly simplistic argument like you did. OU football is proof of how dumb it is, yet you don’t apply the same logic to other programs. Clown.
KU has been cheating and paying players way before it was legal, since Danny manning days. Their players were getting numerous extra benefits under Roy Williams too. Bill Self put their pay for play on steroids.

Bill self is a great coach and KU has cheated forever. Both can be true and are true.

Kind of crazy you even have to say that, as I can’t believe there would ever be anyone standing up for KU…on an OU hoops board.

For me, they could hire the Pope for HC and I would still hate them. 1988 still stings.

Long memories. I remember when they ran off Ted Owens after OU and Mizzou passed them up in the Big 8. They hired Larry Brown, he got them put on probation, but not until after they went to a FF in 86 and beat us in that awful 88 final. Dean recommended an unknown Roy Williams to them and they stepped it up from there. Bill Self kept the machine going.

KU can lose every game in hoops for all I care.

Which extra benefits did they get under Roy? Would love to hear specifics. I hate Roy Williams with a passion. He tried to get WSU on probation when he lost out on a recruit from my high school. Can’t stand the guy, but I’ve never heard any reputable person even remotely question whether they plays players under him.

all of the blue bloods were getting players paid via the aau circuit .. adidas and Nike were giving big money to make sure those teams got players .

I have no idea if / how much Kansas used to cheat in basketball. I hate them for a different reason. I've never been one to whine about officiating. To this date, I've only complained about two losses due to bad officiating. One was the 1988 OU-KU NCAA Championship game. After that game, I made a prediction that unfortunately came true. I yelled at the TV saying: "Manning, you will fall flat on your face in the Olympics because you won't get away with the s#$% you got away with tonight!" Result? USA won a bronze medal at the '88 Olympics with Manning spending lots of time on the bench due to foul trouble. Anyway, the other game I still complain about because of the officiating? The 2006 OU-KU game at the Phog. That was blatantly disgraceful the way that game was officiated.

That’s awfully vague. Again, anyone could make any accusation like that against any winning program in any sport. I’ve seen idiots online saying OU softball only wins because they were paying players before NIL. The poster I was responding to acted like he had specific intel about KU under Roy. I just think stuff like that is pretty silly to throw around. I mean, if people here want to go back to the 80s and 90s, they might want to remember what our football program was doing back then.

I can’t stand KU and was hoping the investigation a few years ago would really nail them. And I’m not saying they weren’t violating rules or that they shouldn’t have been punished. But I also think, going back to what started this conversation, that it is ridiculous to just make a blanket statement that any team that has tailed off the past three or four years was cheating.

a bunch of shoe reps/ast coaches actually went to jail ..

this is not "vague" it is well known that it has been happening (pre current NIL) for decades ..

Scott pollard has talked about being given tips from boosters after games and not having to pay meals at restaurants as other patrons or business would cover it. All violations at the time. I don’t believe he said anything about given specific money to come there, but talked about other benifits. One program they had to stop I believe was under Williams was booster providing each player a suit of a certain quality when graduating or going to nba. They did that for baseball players to as family friend got one.

I don't apply the same logic to OU because nobody has accused us of paying players in the last 20 years.

All I said is that there are a handful of programs that most people knew were cheating, that have noticeably fallen back since the start of NIL. I personally, along with a lot of others across the globe, think that probably points to something. You don't have to reach the same conclusion.

It's not hard to stay out of conversations that are clearly above your intelligence level.

Not hard at all.

Wait. You think Wilt Chamberlain took money to come out of Philly and play with white guys in Lawrence, KS? Preposterous!

I will concede that you are probably an expert on that, since most conversations you come upon are likely above your intelligence level.

Agreed.

2006 or 2016 game at the Phog? 2016 was the Buddy game.
