Yea, they can call it what they want, but they are play-in games in reality. Jay Bilas has made the exact point you made: unless you want to say that 60 teams have byes, the games in Dayton are the textbook example of play-in games.

When they started calling the round of 64 the SECOND round bc of the play in games I got so pissed. And coaches were counting that in their contract incentives as if they won a game in the tourney. So dumb

And the teams/conferences that play in Dayton get paid for winning that game just as if they won a game in the round of 64. Therefore, some of the smaller conferences like getting sent there. They have a much better chance of earning NCAA tournament units by winning a 16 vs 16 game in Dayton than by playing a 1 vs 16 game in the main bracket. 1 NCAA tournament unit is a big deal for a conference like the SWAC.
 
I try to follow both of the OU basketball teams but admit I can only recall a couple of the men's players by name but could probably remember more than half of the lady Sooners because of the vast yearly turn over on the men's side. That maybe one of the reasons for lack of interest in a losing program.

That is better than where I thought they'd be. Still, a few of the schools who are presently "in" will get knocked out with conference tournament upsets. If we win in Austin, I will definitely take a closer look at this. I still don't see a path of getting an at-large bid with less than 20 wins, but I've been wrong before. I was the one who started a thread two years ago this time asking what seed OU would get now that they were a tournament "lock". Oops.

I've looked at a lot of reputable sites and no other one even mentions OU. They are at least 10 spots out in all likelihood. If you aren't even showing up in bubble discussions with one regular season game left, it is pretty clear that you aren't even close to being in the conversation.
 
BTW, Beers is much better than Wague relatively speaking, but they share the fouling gene. It blows my mind how often she picks up silly fouls. I will never understand how players don't understand how damaging and stupid it is to commit senseless fouls, especially 90 feet from your own basket.

Yeah, and that's probably closer than most have us to being in the mix. And he isn't particularly good. I started following some of the better (but lesser known) bracket guys on Twitter last year and I haven't seen OU show up on any of their sites, not first four out, next four out, on life support, or however they label it. They would have to win Saturday, then get at least three wins in the tourney to even give themselves a chance.
 
Huge win for Miami, Ohio last night. From everything I've heard, they would be an NCAA lock if they finished the regular season undefeated while conversely have a 0% chance of getting an at-large if they lost that game last night. That made it a BIG game. The NCAA needs ratings, and they are not going to pass on a 31-0 school regardless of SOS, RPI, etc. Jay Bilas would not defend their poor OOC schedule and said it's understandable that many think they don't belong as an at-large. He also said there is absolutely no way the NCAA Selection Committee will pass on them.
