The first two commitments of the Billy Gillespie era at Texas Tech are coming from Tyler Junior College after both Kader Tapsoba and JaRon Nash gave the school their verbal commitments on Saturday.

Tapsoba (6'10'' 200) averaged 9.2 points,8.2 rebounds and a conference leading 3.7 blocks per game this season and was also being recruited by Northwestern and California.

JaRon Nash (6'7'' 180) put up 11.7 points and 5.3 rebounds as a freshman and was also considering Auburn. He will have 3 years of eligibility remaining.

The commitments mean that four of Coach Mike Marquis Apache starters from last season will be playing at Division 1 schools next year. Both point guard Mitch Marquis and forward Malcolm Moore have already signed to play at UTEP next season.

I didn't know Billy G was so powerful he could sign players retroactively ;).

As JUCO stats go, I wouldn't call BCG's first two commits much to cheer about. I had expected more from an unemployed coach who has been in a position to recruit without restrictions the past two years.

Interesting that he went the JUCO route and got these commitments within days of his being hired, though.

Can I have the OU job if I can get the kids from Las Vegas to commit to OU instead of Texass?

If he 'signed' someone, he broke an NCAA rule, didn't he? As I remember it, JC LOIs are non-binding but are 'signed' at the same time as high school kids.

These guys join Toddrick Gotcher (#15 player in Texas), Terran Petteway (#8 player in Texas), Kevin Wagner (#18 player in Texas), and Jordan Tolbert (offers from ASU, Colorado, Tech, Penn State, Creighton) in Tech's 2010 class.

They will probably look like this next season:

PG: Javarez Willis
-#74 player in class of 2010. Played behind John Roberson all year, but a talented player and outstanding shooter. Will take over the point guard spot.

SG: Marshall Henderson (6'2'' 175- Utah Transfer)
-Averaged 11 points per game as a true freshman for Utah. Redshirted after transferring last year. Very good shooter, was a highly recruited player out of Texas in high school.

SF: JaRon Nash (6'7'' 180)
-Put up 11.7 points and 5.3 rebounds as a freshman at Tyler Junior College. Juco team sent 4 players to D1 schools. Supposed to be an explosive athlete. "Nash is an extremely long and bouncy wing player, the vast majority of his offensive production comes from his drives to the basket. He is very creative with the ball in his hands and is often able to find ways to get to the rim"-ESPN

PF: Jaye Crockett (6'7'' 205)
-Played last season as a redshirt freshman, and showed flashes of being very good. Easily one of the better athletes in the league, this guy can jump out of the gym.

C: Robert Lewandowski (6'10'' 265)
-Big tall white guy. Been a solid player for 3 years. Should improve on defense/rebounding under Billy G.

Billy G will have them winning pretty quick..

Well my gawd!!! I just know that BCG will get roasted on this board for signing JUCO's who didn't average 30/15. I mean come on, those numbers look like stiffs, or at least that is what the brigade who bashed Osby/Goff signing said. Congrats BCG, you just signed Nick T. and Barry H.:p:p

I bet the Nash kid is a good player... 12/5 isnt bad for a juco freshman on a team with 4-5 D1 players. The tall guy is probably just athletic depth in the post. He led his league in blocks, but is probably raw given that he is from Africa and really skinny.

They committed, not signed. My mistake.

Well, I just thought that being BCG, he would click his heels 3 times, pour out a lil licka, and immediately 456 Mickey D's all-americans would de-commit, and re-commit.

I mean that is what this board said right?? right?? right??

Yep, the region's top recruitor, the great Billy C., is off and running and will have the Sand Aggies in the Final 4 next season.

Two solid gets for him...

In his press conference he mentioned a couple of times about gathering height and making his team long...depth in this area is a big concern of his...

This fits what he talked about...

I didnt expect him to come in and right away bring in a lot of Mickey D's, i dont think he will do that next year or the next....but he does know what players work for him and what wins...

Kentucky was just a bad fit for him, but they do have 3 players playing significant minutes and are the leadership for a Final Four team right now, so i think he knows a little about what it takes to make up a succesful basketball team...
