Giving up my tickets!

Come on back then. Just don't act like you never left, a la the tens of thousands of fans that came scurrying back at the beginning of the Stoops era.

For years I always said when I have the extra money I'll get season tickets. When it was determined the Thunder was coming to OKC there was a lot of talk about would the Thunder affect the ticket sales for OU games.
I decided then it was time to quit putting off getting season tickets that I did have the money. So for my first year of having season tickets was last year, 2008-2009.
What a year to have season tickets. It was truly a great season. There was no question if I would renew for the 09-10 season.
Yes this year was partly a let down. I think we also saw alot of potential ahead. I still feel as strongly this year as last. I always make sure if we can't be at the game that someone else is using my tickets. I hate the empty seats. As soon as I get my renewal form I'm online renewing my seats. Even thinking about upgrading seats for next year.

When it all comes down to it the players come and go, coaches come and go, seasons come and go. I'm there to show my support and dedication to OU basketball no matter how they play.

Why can't a person come back to OU? If you truly love OU you want a large crowd and would welcome anyone that wants OU to win, even if they decided not to purchase tickets for a few years due to this past season.

I asked early in the season if Capel could survie a losing season (I got banned for it). This is exactly why I asked. If you don't think fans want results you apparently are not familiar with the New Jersey Nets (I think they play to an empty house every night - I might have the wrong team).

Your right. The Nets had less than 1200 at a few games this past year.

You guys that have smart remarks are really classy. You are not a bandwagon fan if you don't want to pay money to watch a poor product. I will still follow OU and hope they do good, I am just not going to waste my money going to games.

I really doubt Joe C. cares what a bunch of internet yahoos have to say about OU basketball, but I bet he does care when the fans that actually donate money and buy tickets quit doing so.

Right, because bandwagon fans don't scurry away after one bad season...er, wait.

25% of your posts on this board are about you giving up your tickets, and yet you've been a member on the board for a year. I don't begrudge you not spending the money for any other reason than what the basis of your argument is, that it is a bad product. I've heard that argument from pokes, and I just disagree.

You are a good fan. OU basketball needs a bunch more like you for every game. Keep it up! :clap

If I lived in OK, I'd be at every game, too. 6.5 hours is a little far to drive for 20 home basketball games, though.

Giving up tickets due to the high cost is a valid reason - no matter the quality of the team. I've never had season tickets in any sport and I'm sure I spend less per game than any season ticket holder.

But giving up your tickets because of one or evern two bad years is a little bit shortsighted. I think Jeff is a bright young coach who probably learned a lot from this year. I think we will improve. But if I'm wrong I have no doubt that Joe C. will do whatever it takes to right the ship.

Whatever happens, I'll support Cade Davis and anyone else who give 100% for the Sooners.

My thoughts exactly MsProud. If you can't afford the tickets and are dropping them for that reason then I can understand that but to give up your tickets because of one bad season, a year after an elite 8 year, is the definition of a bandwagon fan. I'm sure you'll buy tickets when they start winning again.

Shooterms, My wife and I (who are keeping our tickets BTW) just watched this video and loved every second of it. Her reply after watching the video was "take that you a--hole". Good stuff.

I hope more of the fair weather fans with the expensive seats will give up their tickets so that more fans like me that rarely miss a game have a chance to fill those seats in the lower level instead of sitting upstairs looking down on the empty seats from the spoiled fans that only support their team when they win 30 games (that was last year BTW) and just give up after one bad season.

Great post! :clap

ouatty ,

This is when the program needs you the most. Fan support is directly tied to recruiting, you bail now and you don't help matters.

I did not buy season tickets this past year, I thought that Capel had it rolling and the team would play well enough to attract the bandwagon.

But I will step up next year only because that is when the program will really need me.

That is a ridiculous statement. The non-conference easy games have some value. From memory, OU played Arizona, Arkansas, ISU, Missouri, KSU, Texas, OSU, Baylor, A&M, and Tech at home. I would value the Tech game the lowest and that is a legitimate college basketball game.

I get being upset about the season. I get questioning Capel. But to suggest a season ticket in a good seat at OU for a $1,000 is the worst value in sports really demonstrates how little you know about the cost of tickets. You are not even sniffing good seats at a professional sport for roughly 20 games at $1,000.

Of the games you listed maybe 3 or 4 are worth paying to see. As for pro games, I go all the time, NFL, NBA, MLB and have never paid $250 per ticket. Ever. Not even for the Super Bowl (of course that was a long time ago). The most I have paid was $175 per ticket for the Cowboys Colts Thanksgiving day game when the Colts were undefeated. Well, now you're banned for a month. You called out the mods yesterday in a thread, and I told you if it happened again you would be banned. So you're getting a month off, and since I'm such a nice guy it's going to be a read only ban so you can still read the board.

Now if I hear that you've ripped this site on another board for its moderating, you will get a perma-ban and IP ban. I don't care why you were banned in the past, you've been on here the last month or however long it's been posting pretty much whatever you want and you continue to call us out.

There is no damn reason for you or anyone to ***** about the moderating or claim censorship on this board. We're pretty much letting everything go so you guys can vent, unless it contains personal attacks the tone of the post is mean-spirited.

We've even allowed a thread to go on speculating about who would replace Capel. So I don't want to see anybody on here *****ing about the mods or censorship. Good grief. I think we've been more than lenient and fair. If you don't think so, then just leave.

LOL. I am glad fans like you are giving up. I pay $360 for a pair and i can sit right next to you most games since most donors dont show up anyway.

:clap

This is a great site. I'm as guilty for taking it for granted as anybody is. I know it's been said before but I'll say it again: I would be more than willing to make a donation to you guys to keep this place up and running. I know there are a lot of others that would as well. Just let us know.

I second the loving this site sentiment. I wouldn't have a clue where to go discuss Sooner BB without this place. I think the mods do a great job of letting people vent without letting it go too far.

BOOOOYAHHHHH! :clap

as much as I hate it - hafta agree with atty's overall decision. if he's not happy with the product then it isn't meeting the entertainment value for him and he should stop buying the tickets save some other reason.

I would have been very upset to have purchased tickets to the Big-12 game only to have them give about 30% effort in the loss. That's the reality of it and why coaches make big money.

Thanks. And, again, I'm not asking for any thanks or money. If we were providing consistent recruiting updates I probably would add a donate button to help pay the rent.

All I want is for people to respect those of us who devote our time to make this work, and then respect each other on the boards. We're starting to get a lot of yahoos/jackasses running around here and that's going to come to an end before next season.

And, for the record, I'm just as pissed off and frustrated at this season as the most angry person on this board is. Trust me.

I would gladly donate some money to keep this site. I said it earlier this morning and I'll say it again, I appreciate the fact this board doesn't force people to think only one way. In any given community, be it a town or a village or even a message board, you have to be willing to allow other's to express their opinion.

I know my opinion hasn't been as popular as others, but I really try to express my opinion without attacking other posters. If I have attacked other posters, I certainly apologize. As I've said before, OU basketball is personal for me and I am very concerned about it's future at this point.

Thanks again.
