Giving up my tickets!

You guys that have smart remarks are really classy. You are not a bandwagon fan if you don't want to pay money to watch a poor product. I will still follow OU and hope they do good, I am just not going to waste my money going to games.

I really doubt Joe C. cares what a bunch of internet yahoos have to say about OU basketball, but I bet he does care when the fans that actually donate money and buy tickets quit doing so.

Thank God you are giving up your tickets so a real OU fan can come to the games in the future

This is a great site. Thanks for your dedication to Sooner basketball.

There shouldn't be 1 Sooner fan satisfied with this season. A bunch of us have our own ideas what needs to be done to get back on track but it really doesn't matter. Jeff is getting paid over 1 million to win games and develop young men. It's his job to get it worked out. What sucks is we won't have a clue how hard we will play til next November.

The garbage needed to stop and some need to grow up. Exchanges of ideas are great and I enjoy reading others ideas but personal attacks behind a keyboard shouldn't be tolerated.

For people who forget, where did people go for OU hoops before this board started up in Oct 08 ? We all got a small sub forum on OU football boards that dedicated at best 5% of its attention towards basketball news and recruiting.

I really see no reason to attack the guy because he's not renewing his tickets. I see this as a positive in a few ways:

1.) If enough people like the OP drop tickets, it will force the AD to figure out what's best for OU basketball. I think he is already doing this, but a few years back many of us posters on the insider boards were concerned he didn't even care.

2.) A newer more rabid fan may purchase these seats. Not to take away from the OP, but most of the ticket buyers who hardly go to games and who leave early will stop buying the tickets opening seats for a more devoted fan. For those of you who complain about fans leaving early and empty seats, you should welcome new fans who don't mind paying for tickets any longer. After the 90's in football, our fanbase improved 10 fold as far as being active during the game. The same thing could happen here.

Ouatty-

That is your choice but have you considered all the variables that went into such a crappy season or have you just pinned it all on the coach? Let's consider a few things first. First Juan Pattillo. It's my opinion that it was not the coaches that missed on him. Other schools were willing to take a chance on him. What happened with him would have happened anywhere IMO. Now Warren. You can't throw Warren under the bus because of this year when in his freshmen year he played well and helped the Sooners to the Elite Eight. I think Warren had a combination of issues this year. His injury came along just before our stretch run the second half of the season. Up till that point it's true that Warren was in a sophomore slump but who's to say had he stayed healthy he wouldn't have redeemed himself? Again some blame can be thrown at Capel's feet but how much really? Now let's look at the BIG reason OU struggled. Blake Griffin, Taylor Griffin, & Austin Johnson. That's a LOT of leadership to lose for any coach especially when you consider that you're attempting to replace TWO seasoned post players with noobs. I don't mean any disrespect by using that term but it's a WIDELY used term nowadays that perfectly describes what OU had under the basket. Freshmen that, defensively, just weren't ready. Again here is where if Juan wanted to do the right thing Jeff Capel DID have players ready to step in.

I understand where you're coming from. It was a very frustrating season no doubt. If you can talk your wife out of it though I would. At least till next year anyways. I just don't see anyway at all any one coach can continue to have so many variables work against him over a 2 year span. Jeff Capel once said that part of becoming successful is falling in love with the process. Truer words have never been spoken. I think of all years NEXT year could be one of the years everyone talks about for a long time. I would hang onto those seats if I were you.

Of the games you listed maybe 3 or 4 are worth paying to see. As for pro games, I go all the time, NFL, NBA, MLB and have never paid $250 per ticket. Ever. Not even for the Super Bowl (of course that was a long time ago). The most I have paid was $175 per ticket for the Cowboys Colts Thanksgiving day game when the Colts were undefeated. Check out the seats$1,000 per seat for OU basketball is HORRIBLE value.

watch

then i would say that you are not a basketball fan .. and not really much of an OU fan ...

every time OU steps on the basketball court it is worth being there in person ..

We should keep this thread going for a while. The unleashed mod fury was classic. Just for the record, people ***** just as much on the pay boards.

I think the best thing for this thread would be to turn it in one bagging on DenverSooner. Just kidding, buddy. Just say the word and I'll call it off. LOL!

Just where are all these real OU fans?????

It is real easy to buy a cheap ticket at the box office or from a fan with extra tickets standing outside the LNC. For all but two or three games each season, it is simple to find plenty of tickets for sale at less than face value outside the LNC.

So, where are the fans??? The real fans. Why don't they come to the games????

I am at the games. Have been for many many years. But the arena almost always has scads of empty seats. Upper level. Lower level. Any level. There are lots of empty seats anywhere you look.

Real OU basketball fans??? I think that these are mythical creatures. Either that, or they stay at home and type into computers as they criticize someone who was, in fact, a real fan that supported the team with his money and his attendance.

My first reaction was to be upset at the OP. I don't think he's necessarily making the right decision. That being said, I didn't go to the last few games, and frankly, didn't really watch all that closely on TV. I can't say that I've EVER done that in the 10 years since I graduated from OU. Even when I was out of market, I found a way to watch every single game that was possible.

It's not that I am losing interest because of the losing. It's the attitudes. And frankly, as much of a Capel supporter as I am, sometimes his attitude comes off the same way.

That being said, I'll be back in full force in November. But my tickets won't cost me $4000.00. I will buy the mini-pack and then fill it in with the other games I can get to, assuming attitudes are better. If they're not, I'll probably wait for a change in either regime or in recruiting strategy, because watching these guys embarrass my alma mater in the matter they did this year is unbearbable to me, and to pretty much everyone (including a few on this board who probably won't speak up) that I have talked to. I can't say that I would renew $4000.00 worth of tickets on the off-chance that these kids get their heads on straight in the offseason.

And just to ward off the haters, I don't necessarily blame anyone for this. I don't know whose fault this is. The Yo Yo story yesterday was just another in a long line of confusing stories I've heard this year, and frankly, it seems like maybe there isn't ANYONE associated with the program that doesn't bear some of the responsibility. And that would include the fans, just so I'm clear. The fans (a vocal minority in my opinion) that demanded a change in philosophy in order to get us to that next level as a program. The fans that won't show up unless we're a top-10 team. So yes, as a whole, I think EVERYONE bears some of the responsibility.

maybe another 2k that live 2 far to make it to week night games ..

I completely agree. Complaining about the fan base is off a bit, it's that the bandwagon fans are bandwagon fans. Every school has them but OU needs a couple thousand more real fans. Now this season was so bad that good fans had to suffer while supporting kids like TC, CD and RW, it was hard. Even real fans are hurting but reading posts from bandwagon (football#1) fans just make it worse. Reminds me of the Kelvin can't coach crowd. JC has made mistakes but will get the program on track next season.

What's the YoYo story? Do you mean the one from Sittler's blog that said WW and TC revolted against the S&C workouts last summer? Or is this a story from another article? Or is this something you heard from an insider?

Well, now you're banned for a month. You called out the mods yesterday in a thread, and I told you if it happened again you would be banned. So you're getting a month off, and since I'm such a nice guy it's going to be a read only ban so you can still read the board.

Now if I hear that you've ripped this site on another board for its moderating, you will get a perma-ban and IP ban. I don't care why you were banned in the past, you've been on here the last month or however long it's been posting pretty much whatever you want and you continue to call us out.

There is no damn reason for you or anyone to ***** about the moderating or claim censorship on this board. We're pretty much letting everything go so you guys can vent, unless it contains personal attacks the tone of the post is mean-spirited.

We've even allowed a thread to go on speculating about who would replace Capel. So I don't want to see anybody on here *****ing about the mods or censorship. Good grief. I think we've been more than lenient and fair. If you don't think so, then just leave.

From the Sittler article, and again, it's not that I necessarily believe Dave, it's more that I don't know what to think or believe.

well, I love basketball and I want to see the darn game and hafta be able to get around on my own...so it's homebound. When I could go I did - but I MUCH prefer being able to actually see the games up close on the screen.

I travel from Tulsa to about 90% of the games. But to be fair most peoples situations are not like mine as to where my work takes me to the OU Norman clinics to the OU Tulsa clinics. Luckily during basketball season Norman is my primary home but I do try and make the game when I am in Tulsa as well.
