Great effort, but still a disappointment

Coach Capel was fine. You can only give the refs so much hell especially when hair piece hightower is at the helm. Credit also needs to be given to how hard the guys played. Coaching usually has something to do with that. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

And I gave full credit for how hard the guys played. Did you not read my original post?

But Coach Capel was very meek in dealing with the officials; Calipari was much more pro-active.

And he got results. I can't think of a questionable call that went our way (yes, of course I'm biased), but there were plenty that went UK's way.

Because our guys played so hard, they deserved a stronger advocate working the officials.

You know I actually give you alot of credit for your knowledge of the game. Did you ever think that some refs give some coaches a little more slack than others. I mean really. Coach Capel jumping down the ref's throat wouldn't have won the game today. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

That just hasn't been Capel's style though. Kelvin and Billy were in that type of style but Capel is always focused more on his players it seems.

Did you ever think there's a reason those coaches get a little more slack?

And once again, in my original post, I said that if Nick Thompson had been more with it and Coach Capel had taken it to the officials a bit more, we might have earned a single-digit loss or maybe an upset win.

So nowhere was I guaranteeing a win if Coach Capel had worked the officials more, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Can a coach carry it too far? Absolutely, but I made it quite clear that I don't want Coach going over the top. But he's got to stand up to them more than he did today. Choose your spots, sure, but make those officials think twice about their calls. Show 'em they're going to hear from you if they get lazy or don't consider their decisions carefully. UK got call after call after call (and not just foul calls), any two or three of which might have made a key difference.

I'm not asking for a reversal in style, but an adjustment. It's a matter of degree.

He's a young coach; he shouldn't be too solidly set in his ways yet.

This young team's going to need all the help he can give it.

Anyone dissapointed with any facet of this game is simply unreasonable!!!!! Coach Capel has never been one to jump up and down and act like an idiot if calls aren't going his way. He is doing a great job with this team IMO!!

Look, we have sooo many new pieces and this team has improved virtually every game they have stepped on the court. After the exhibition, how many on this board thought this team had a chance in hell to be within 6 points of UK with a few minutes left???? NO ONE!!!!

This team plays with passion and will only continue to improve. Now we will probably take a few steps backwards before we take several more forward but I LOVE watching this team play. So many on here had written off Blair saying he was a waste of ship...when he simply was battling an illness. He looked good tonight. Washington impressed me...Cade looked like a different player attacking the rim, Fitz was solid, and so on and so on. This team has some potential....and I can't WAIT until we add Osby and Goff to the squad next year!!! Those two plus getting TJ Taylor (assuming we add no others) and next year is looking pretty bright IMO!!!

I look forward to tomorrow and see how we compete. DOn't be surpirsed if we lose by 10+...but I totally expect us to give it all!

Sorry sky, but that adjustment wouldn't have worked. I think Coach Capel coached our players up to the best of his ability. We were just out-athleted today. Now you see why we were recruiting T-JONES so hard. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

Who's asking for him to jump up and down ilke an idiot? Certainly not me.

I guess I'm going to have to resort to quoting myself, since some seem to be unable to grasp what I'm saying.

I don't want him to be someone he's not, and I certainly don't want the second coming of Bobby Knight, but you've got to stand up for your players and get a few calls to go your way.

Hope that clears it up for everyone. I don't mind a bit folks disagreeing with my viewpoint, but please have the slightest inkling what that viewpoint is before you chime in.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, and to further clarify: I didn't say a word about Coach Capel not doing a good job with the team. I criticized his approach to dealing with the officials in a big game like today's, and nothing else.

I agree Sky, if you dont make the refs respect you, they wont

The only thing I'm disappointed about is not winning. The fact that we even had a slight chance is very promising.

I think we're able to grasp what you're saying. You're just not saying much. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

Agreed. Sometimes a coach who isn't normally an official worker tries to become one for a big game, and it works against them.; He maintained his normal keel today, and I'm fine with that...

I'll just quote myself since most of my posts get ignored/repeated around here anyway.:chestram2::woot\

Maybe I'm just missing something but I thought that it was a pretty well officiated game, overall. Sure, Hightower has to interject himself into the mix to show he's "The Man", but other than that, there wasn't much to work the officials over. We got a bunch of calls on the perimeter when their guys jumped out and bodied us. Some of the rebounds Kentucky got was because they have superior athletes that just moved around and jumped over us. I didn't see much to complain over so I thought Jeff had the right attitude with the zebras.

Only dissapointment was that we lost, and some shots late in the game...

Capel worked the refs, he just isnt the fiery idiot Calipari is...he isnt out there to be the show and the focal point like Calipari...

Thompson was a huge player in this game, he did get beat off the dribble, but possibly by the best freshman in college this year...he battled him and didnt back down...i liked his effort defensively, and like i have said many times...Thompson is going to be the whipping boy this year because no one will ever think he plays to his potential, he is a very well rounded player but offensively he just isnt going to be aggressive...sometimes that's good, sometimes not so much...

I thought the refs were very true in this game, i am a Kentucky fan as well and i think they got hosed on several calls throughout the game...in fact, i felt there were more calls that didnt go their way in critical situations than OU...some helped OU stay in the game IMO...but thats basketball, gotta play through it and they did, as did OU...
