Henson to UTSA

So tell me why this can't wait until after the weekend?

I'm with you in being annoyed that these two announcements, whether leaks or official, couldn't wait four freaking days.

Man, between the AP POY travesty and these two ill-timed announcements, I have worked myself into one sour mood in the last hour.

I would think this could work out 2 ways...

OU guys want to send both guys out (and Kruger) with a NC...I'm sure with 3 Sr and 1 Jr they won't be thinking about "next year".

There is no reason the coaches NEED to leave before Tuesday...not much can be done in 4 days (recruiting wise) and what better to have than a recent hire that just won the NC.

:woot

There is no way either coach is "leaving early". I'd argue that never happens.

But there might be distractions.

Friends with someone who knows Brooks. When I asked about UTSA, it sounded like they just wanted to spend money on football.

I'll admit I don't know much about UTSA basketball, but it strikes me as a pretty underwhelming program to finally lure Henson away from Kruger.

That was my thought. Along with Lew taking a job, I hope something's not happening behind the scenes.

I guess you gotta start somewhere, but both coaching moves seem underwhelming. But if they succeed it's good for OU in the end.

Don't pretend to be in the know, but I don't believe we should worry that something bad is happening "behind the scenes."

I believe the hiring of Henson and Hill are simply a reflection of all the good things Lon and his Sooners have done, and how it calls attention to the OU coaching staff.

By the way, I talked to a couple of people who ARE in the know and they agree with you 100%. Both said they think Lon will replace these guys with really good coaches and that these guys parlayed a superstar and a Final Four run into head jobs.

That's great to hear, Indy. And I'm very happy for both of them.

I'd look at it a lot differently. There's nowhere to go but up from where the program is now, and UTSA has plenty of resources (part of the UT system) and is in a solid area for recruiting. If anything, I bet Henson is looking at this as an opportunity to turn the program around and use it as a stepping stone.

As for UT-Rio Grande, that's what used to be Texas Pan-American, where Lon got his start. I can see why Lew saw some potential there.

Granted, neither said there's no way Lon's retiring, but both knew before about the coaching searches and haven't heard anything about Lon other than he will replace the guys with quality assistants - and coaches are excited about working for him.

Means he wasn't getting the OU job when Kruger retires.

Means he wanted to be a HC. Earned the title. Nothing wrong with him leaving. OU isn't just giving the job to a rookie.

Good for him. Best of luck to him.

OU will be fine.

Makes perfect sense. Best of luck to them both!
