NORMAN -- The Tulsa World has learned that Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel has no intention to interview for the vacant position at Clemson today, a development that the Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier reported could happen.

Also, the Norman Transcript reports Capel was in Norman Friday night hosting a recruit, at the same time some media outlets speculated that an interview with Clemson was imminent.

The Post and Courier reported that Baylor coach Scott Drew could interview with Clemson today. The Rivals site TigerIllustrated.com has reported that Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips interviewed former Boston College coach Al Skinner, Wright State coach Brad Brownell, Wofford coach Mike Young, Old Dominion coach Blaine Taylor and Jacksonville coach Cliff Warren over the past two days.

The Tigers have been without a coach since Oliver Purnell left to take over at DePaul early last week.

Capel’s OU contract runs through the 2015-16 season. He will make $1.55 million next season under terms of the deal that was signed following OU’s 30-win 2008-09 season.

Well, that's some good news. At this point, I'll take anything.

I would much rather this article say "recruits" rather than "recruit", but oh well. At least it's something.

Capel better be trying to sign some players because right now OU doesn't have a point guard or any post players.

One part of me believes that OU Basketball would be so much better off with a press conference; then another part of me believes that these guys are better than giving in to baseless rumors and speculation from unamed "sources".

I have a strange feeling that Capel is going to pull a miracle out.

Or small forwards, or shooting guards, or power forwards or bench players...

i'm glad there's an article on something.

is it nick thompson that capelfan was asking about?

edit: i see jefe posed this ? in the other thread.

NORMAN — Friday night, the Charleston Post and Courier reported Oklahoma basketball coach Jeff Capel would be interviewing for the Clemson job either Friday or Saturday.

A source close to the OU program told the Transcript Saturday morning the report was false.

The source said Capel hosted a recruit Friday night in Norman and he had no plans to leave town this weekend.

“This is becoming comical,” the source said.

Capel just completed the first year of a seven-year contract that will pay him $13.28 million over the duration of the deal.

The agreement also includes a buyout clause. If Capel left prior to next season, OU would be owed $1.5 million.

According to several media reports, Clemson has already interviewed five coaches for the job. The Charleston Post and Courier also reported that Baylor coach Scott Drew was a potential candidate, but hasn’t interviewed.

Clemson has been in the market for a coach since Tuesday when Oliver Purnell left for DePaul.

Other media reports named Capel has potential candidate for the opening at Wake Forest.

Friday and Saturday several outlets reported that Colorado coach Jeff Bzdelik had emerged as the Demon Deacons’ top choice to replace Dino Gaudio, who was fired earlier this week.

Sort of agree.

Wasn't it between us and CU for some JUCO? Need to go after CU's recruits hard.

The only thing comical is the state of our basketball program.

Is the Charleston P&C just a propaganda wing for Clemson? They just seem to print rampant speculation and always seem to have "well-place" sources within OU. I mean Clemson is not the greatest job in the ACC and is less of a job than WF. Why WF would go after Bzdelik is just a mystery and really seems to be a reach. You fire a coach that has probably underperformed but still made it to the tourney and won a game to hire a guy that scrapes the bottom of the Big XII consistantly? I realize he did a good job at AF, but his style of play really seems more suited for the Big 10.

Too Bad!! I would chip in to pay his moving expenses.

Told you he wouldn't take clemson. Don't be surprised if there's one more team that says their interested in interviewing him. This might come out next week or this team may go another direction. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

I like your thinking Mr. B. I hope Coach Capel can pull this back together as well. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

agreed.

This is one more thing that would have been nice to hear from Capel himself.

I agree. While this all may be "comical" to the inside source, this is my favorite sport's program and I would like to at least know if our coach is still going to be here next year. I really am starting to feel like that this whole process is being handled very poorly by the AD and this staff. Maybe there is more to it than what meets the eye, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to put a statement out explaining what details that they are able to devulge.

I think if this would happen, this board would take on a completely different demeanor, not to mention IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE PROGRAM. I'd like to see a press conference or a safe interview [Blevins on Blitz, Al on Sports Animal or Hale on KREF] next week.
