Capel interested in Clemson job?

If you wonder why he is being linked to Clemson maybe he's been told to look around? These lists don't come out by accident. I would bet that Capel's agent is making calls right now as a back up plan in case this investigation goes bad.

Well BT since you fell like you know every single fact then I will yield to you today. Your opinion is just that. Meanwhile I'll wait to hear the facts from the horse's mouth. I don't mean any offense in my statements, but I feel like you are jumping the gun. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

Faithful, you're true to your username, I'll give you that. There are plenty of "facts" to suggest that our basketball program is in one heck of a mess, and it was all under Coach Capel's watch. That, too, is a fact. I don't blame him for everything. But he's the one being paid the big bucks to oversee the activities of his players and staff, on and off the court, and he clearly failed to do that.

If anyone has a right to be disappointed about the events of the past few weeks, it's BigTime. If you only knew how much time he has devoted to promoting OU men's basketball the past three years, not to mention his own money, you would be more understanding about why he is so upset. Ask some of the Capables, they'll tell you. Frankly, he has been remarkably calm under the circumstances. You'd better believe that I wouldn't be calm if I was in his shoes. My contribution of time was a drop in the bucket compared to BT, and I'm so angry I could bite the heads off of ten penny nails. Anyway you slice it, my friend, this is an absolute disaster!

Sorry if what I've said seems out of character for my usual sunny disposition and positive attitude. I simply do not find a whole heck of a lot to be happy about at the moment.

Capel ought to feel lucky he has a job. He's closer to losing the one he has than another school offering him a position.

That's all fine and dandy, but what about OU? This isn't JeffCapelHoops.com. He has got us in a huge mess right now and he either needs to get us out of it or gtfo. I am ready for this trainwreck to be over.

Yep.

Some of us are just built differently. I love faithful's optimism. I am having trouble being optimistic, but I try to only get upset in hindsight. I'd rather miss an opportunity to get mad than find out I was wrongly upset. Still I think we are on the verge of something bad.

Wow!! If BT and Ada are saying these kind of things, I know that they have a pretty good idea of what's going on inside the program. Things must be pretty bad.

I guess this is my question. Has Capel learned from this? He knows basketball. I don't question that. Has he learned anything about managing and overseeing a program? People learn from their mistakes .... I hope. Has he learned to keep distance from the players? He can't just be a buddy.

Gosh, we have current players leaving in droves. I assume Tiny is gone, too. Coach O's sudden departure less than a week before signing day says volumes about the TMZ deal. We lose a legacy recruit like Carter ..... I suspect he was scared away. Poland has been ours to lose but he's apparently moving on.

We need Capel to stay or else we will likely lose Clark and Taylor, too.

I just hope the NCAA isn't lurking. Joe C needs to be decisive and firm now. If we have to purge, let's get it all done now.

I have always been a guy that has supported Capel...loved him in college, same age, really liked his attitude and felt like he had done some good things with the team until this season...

But i am starting to really doubt whether he is the guy for OU, a lot of this news isnt new to any of us...the problem is that for a long time it was just rumor then everything has started to unfold...EVERYTHING!

the last straw for me was losing Carter, not a guy i thought would come right in and save the world but a guy two years ago, hell, even one year ago we get w/o a problem...his brother played here for goodness sake...i have lost all confidence that we will bring in any relevant recruits the rest of the way...relevant and committed i might add...

Was a feel good thing getting Neal, but he will not impact our team winning games next year...but you know what, i would take 10 more of 'em and a new coach if that would change what is going on at OU right now...

Very well said. BigTime is one of the main reasons I read this board. He makes quality and enlightening posts, and his passion for your Program is unrivaled. Yet, he keeps it classy (high road) - yes, even with this aggie. I wish our side had more fans like BigTime.

Capel appears to be really close to leaving according to The State newspaper of SC:

http://www.thestate.com/2010/04/09/1236311/tigers-look-to-ex-bc-coach-recruit.html

"As reported in The Post and Courier on Thursday, Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel is a candidate, according to multiple sources.

A well-placed source said Capel wants out of Oklahoma.

Another source said Capel is atop the Clemson's list, but might be more interested in the Wake Forest position, which came open after Dino Gaudio's firing Wednesday."

This is too weird for words. A bidding war for Jeff Capel at this point in time?

I wonder if this isn't Capel's people desperately trying to make something happen. Need some time to digest.

Don't even know what to say about that. IMO, bailing for another job after flushing our program down the crapper would be almost scandalous. Who knows on these stories though; some end up true, while others are just a waste of words.

I just don't know what to say. If this "well placed source" is correct then we probably ought to let him go....new job or not. Finances probably preclude that but if Capel does not want to be here I don't see his job performance improving. I know when I hated my job and was looking for a new "situation" it was really had to give it my all every day as ashamed as I am to say it. Hope this is not the case as it will spill over to everyone in the program...poor Cade.

Is this why Capel isn't saying anything about the firing of Taliaferro or anything else related to the OU program?

From ESPN:
Jeff Capel - OU is falling apart, so this is a good time to get out of Dodge. Then again, why would that make him an attractive choice?

Kind of sums up my thoughts.

I wouldn't be mad at Capel for taking the Clemson job. I'm mad at where the program is today. That is what I'm mad about. If I'm him and the Clemson job is offered I take it in a heartbeat.

If Clemson wants him, they can have him.

Jeff will be a lame duck coach next year unless all the speculation is cleared. Joe C better come out and guarantee all the future recruits that OU has made a long time commitment to stand behind Jeff.
