Both of them have been on recent unofficial visits to Norman and are two local kids to keep an eye on.

Harris is a 6'2 combo guard at Putnam City West, formerly of Midwest City.

Hammond is a 6'8 post now at OKC Homeschool, formerly of Duncan.

It will be interesting to see how far these kids have come three years from now. Harris appears to have some potential. As lk2183 said, he has a nice crossover, and I like how he has a good command of both hands in dribbling the ball. He looks, and plays like, he's smaller than 6' 2". Are you sure he's that tall, Sam?

Hammond is obviously raw right now, so it's difficult to say if he will develop into a prospect at the D-1 level? He's a big kid for his age, and if he still has some growing to do, who knows how things might turn out.

Sam, is the competition for home school kids good enough to force a kid like Hammond to work hard at getting better, or will he level off in his development at some point if no one he plays against has the size and skills to push him? I know virtually nothing about home school kids who compete in sports. The home school kids I'm familiar with here are students only.

There are some good home school teams. Generally speaking, the majority are not outstanding but the elite home school teams are very good. One of Baylor's former assistants coached a homeschool team in Houston that had 3-4 college level athletes, including 2 DI kids (one went to Iowa if I remember correctly).

You would be shocked at the level of play of some of them.

Allnzo Trier plays on a really good homeschool...

Good to see Kruger and staff getting in on these kids early. That was a beef that I had with the previous staff. Nothing wrong with jumping on your local talent early in the process as there is no law that says you HAVE to take them if they don't pan out as upperclassmen.

That method has been paying big dividends for Scott Drew at Baylor.

BT, I said pretty much the same thing a few days ago, but shied away from pointing to the previous staff's failure to make their mark early on young talent with potential. You're right, though. That was one thing Capel and his staff did not do well. OU seemed to get in too late on far too many recruits who went to other schools in the end, while we were left wishing we had develolped a relationship with them at an early age. Clearly LK and his staff are determined not to make that mistake.

OKC Storm will scrimmage in Tulsa this November against Union.

They have Hammond and Trier.

Not to speak for Sam, but Harris is a legit 6'2. Right now he has the skill to play either guard position. His IQ is that of a point guard, but he can attack the rim and shoot like a shooting guard. Over the past three months he has matured phyisically and added about ten pounds of muscle. I expect for him to have a good offensive year at PC West this year.

As for Jacob, not to discredit your evaluation, but there is no doubt he's a division one player right now. At one of the camps we had recently, one of the coaches on the sideline was getting to word out about Hammond to his buddy at Weber State. We have also had D2 and NAIA coaches ready to offer him a scholarship until the found out he was just a sophomore. I recently talked to a coach out of the Texas area and he told me that he would take Hammond over any 2014 big kid that he has seen play in Texas.

Hammond still has a long way to go and is very raw, but his motor and athleticism give him a leg up on a lot of the other kids we have seen in that class. A lot of that can be credited to his AAU program, Team June. This year with the OKC Storm, he will play under Johnathan Bluitt, ex McGuinness star and pg at Oral Roberts a few years back. I feel among the state prospects he rates about 3rd or 4th on OU's watchlist.

WJ, don't worry about "discrediting my evalauation." I made those observations after watching a 66 seconds highlight video. That is hardly an intelligent (or fair) assessment of this kid's potential. You, Sam and the coaches who have actually seen him play in person, know a lot more about what he is capable of down the road a ways.

Is there a chance he could grow an inch or two in the next couple of years? He has good size now at 6' 8" 215. But his big legs and a strong, evenly-distributed upper body makes it likely he could support even more weight, providing the extra pounds are added in the right way. We know nothing is certain in predicting how tall these kids will be someday (see Kyle Hardrick). I'm just curious if you or Sam have heard anything about the possibility that he may be 6' 9 or bigger when he stops growing?

Oh, and thanks for the heads up on these two kids!

When you have tall kids at a young age like that, you always hear how much they will grow. There is a 2015 kid in Lawton that is 6'6 right now and has about a 6'10 wingspan and if he were to grow another two or three inches you would be talking about a bigtime prospect. With Hammond the same can be said. Hammond may not need to grow anymore to get a high major offer, but if he does, one is in the bag.

Why did Hammond leave Duncan? Is he trying to go to PCW also?

He has been primarily a homeschooled kid and the family felt comfortable going back to that situation.

Of couse Tulsa Union has two good youngster in the class of 2014 that have a ton of potential as well.

That sounds good. I hope it works out for him. He has come a long way since the beginning of this year. Excited to see him in the scrimmage.

Who is Tulsa Union?? HAHA

Union does have several good young ones.

One of those is receiving mail and has had coaches from several D1 schools, including OU calling Garcia about him.
