hoping for some insight from those who went to scrimmage

When you have a wide open 4 foot shots and you throw it over the rim you are throwing bricks. And let me make this perfectly clear to you, I don't care who Sherri starts, I am perfectly happy with Kaylon and Vivi. This was one srimmage, and Kaylon still has problems finishing at the rim. Your example is way out of line. I don't make things up on this board.

Thanks Norm, yeah she was 4-8 from the field, her four misses were horrible. But hell what do I know I just make this crap up!!!!

:ez-laugh: Your knowledge of basketball doesn't take a backseat to anyone on this board and your evaluations are always spot-on.

Good info! I hope that we can pick up more easy fastbreak points off of defensive rebounding this year. Last year the vast majority of our fastbreak points came off steals. We need to take advantage of our depth and ability to run.

I don't think we will see this happen, but I hope Sherri has a package with both Kaylon and Vivi playing a high Low option. If they set their screens right and the spacing is where it should be, Maddie and Gabbi could run drives all night long and have options of passing to Peyton for the three or low post lay ups to either post. Both Kaylon and Vivi have got stronger in the off season, and they have both excellent foot work. There is no drop off from the position. Kaylon is solid from the free throw line, and Vivi has worked in the off season on hers. Both kids will be fun to watch this season.

Vivi began to hit some free throws late in the year. She hit 10 of 12 in tournament play. I had the impression that Sherri was rotating Vivi and Kay Kay late in the year at about four minute intervals to keep them fresh. They were rotating when they weren't in foul trouble. It did seem to keep both a bit fresher.

Like RocJunkie said, I am sure we will all have different opinions. I appreciate the comments. From looking at the stats, hearing what people have said, and my own feelings about the players that are back; my expectations of different players are not the same of some here. But they don't have to be. With that said, I really appreciate reading what those who were there, as well as those who are just taking what info they can find, have to say. Different viewpoints help.

I have no clue why things have to get personal. I wish we would all do better about that. Somehow it is a COMPETITION to post what you think about something that is subjective. You can use stats but they do not tell the whole story. Experts disagree and none of us are experts, well that I am aware.

I often write a post in a thread and then end up deleting it because I don't won't to read the replies. Not because it hurts my feelings or makes me mad, but it just isn't fun. I really think that is the purpose of this board isn't it? If not, why would anyone read or post here? And I am not jumping on anyone in particular, I believe we have all been guilty at one time or another.

Very well said, excellent post.

You apparently only looked at the stats at the top.

It is hard to figure out which stats were against women and which were against men's teams. I know we do not all agree but I don't put too much stock in what happens when women play men. There are brothers and sisters in my family and I know the difference in the athleticism between boys and girls. I admit I may have mis-identified which stats were against which opponents. But It doesn't really matter - it was a scrimmage.

But I just get frustrated reading so much criticism about some of our players. KK has to take a lot of that. I looked at other Big-12 team's boards and I can't find anyone already being critical of their players who were listed on the pre-season Big-12 team. Why do we do that so much?

In many ways KK is my favorite player we have. She has such a wonderful personality. She loves her school, she loves her team. She was an incredibly important part of our team last year. Why do some posters gripe about her so much?

But I admit I write some things tongue-in-cheek. That takes a certain type of personality to pick it up on a board like this. Just in case anyone was confused, Gabbi did learn a lot in International play this past summer, but she didn't master the behind the back dunk. :)

Nice post!

It never ceases to amaze me how some can offer honest opinions and never be criticized. But, anyone not a member of the "special group" is criticized for doing the same thing. There is definitely a double standard here.

BTW, I don't see any of you over on the men's board saying one thing about what people post.

When Sally Jenkins criticized Kim Mulkey for dipping the standards of the women's game in the mud, she wasn't suggesting that what Kim had done was not rather typical of sport. Indeed, her disappointment was that Kim performed exactly according to the corrupt standards of the men's game and the NCAA, something that the women's game has attempted to avoid. The women's game, perhaps even women's sport in general, has been held to a higher standard and has had fewer violations of significance.

It is an attempt to hold the women's game to a standard of sport. It is not what you can get away with, but what you can do to uphold the standards of the game. Women's sport would naturally lament a Mulkey, probably even a Blair because his defense is based on what you can get away with.

What the men's board does, or perhaps a football board, is of no interest. I post on the men's board. But, I never post something critical of a student at OU. I do not wish to drag the coach's standards down or imply that I know more than he. I don't really want to get into arguments with those who do.

Is there a difference? I hope so. It would be nice to have some standards in academic sports.

The main problem with what was learned by Baylor's infractions is what it does to your reputation. People who display character and ethical shortcomings seldom are able to get those under control. In other words, if a person cheats once that person is likely to cheat again under the right circumstances. It is not just a case of "well she cheated once". It is a glaring statement that integrity is not as important to her as it is for an honest and ethical person.

We have seen that at OU not that long ago. We had a men's BB coach (whose name I will not put in print) who was found guilty of email and texting violations for which our university paid a pretty big price. So he goes to Indiana and - unbelievably to some - did the exact same thing again. It should not have surprised anyone. He obviously had character flaws and a lack of ethical grounding.

As another example, look at SMU's men's BB team. No one should be surprised at what happened recently. Unfortunately, recruits were not able to evaluate all that and are the ones who have gotten caught up in the fallout.

I am so happy that the OU administration seems to have learned a lesson and has brought in basketball coaches who appear to put enormous weight on character and ethics. Yes we may lose some recruiting battles because of that. But it is far and away the best approach.

So when Baylor wins a big recruiting battle it will always leave questions about whether it was done with integrity. Obviously it does not mean they cheat on every recruiting battle. But it tarnishes things and leaves the question open. Recruits are young and are often not able to grasp that. But it tarnishes the entire program they are committing to. It doesn't go away, and that recruit gets swept right into that cesspool of questions.

The administration is bringing in that type of person for all coaching positions in all sports on campus. There is no guarantee of someone you hire, but the same qualities that Sherri, Lon, Patty, Bob, etc all exhibit are the qualities they are looking for in head coaches at OU. Much to the chagrin of some, Boren and Castiglione are not a "win at all cost" administration. THANKFULLY!
