Hot Topic on the Men's Board re: New Rules

If it does include the women's game, it will eventually favor the quick fundamentally sound teams, and penalize the A&M, and West VA teams that lean toward "thugary" defense.

I just want consistency in all games. Not have one set of refs allow hacking and holding, and then the next set call every thing. Hopefully this will clean up the game if it is included in the women's game and reward offensive production and make the game fun to watch again.

I have mixed feelings. I think the game should be called consistent from league to league, team to team, and game to game. That's easier said than done. But, I don't like the idea of too many whistles. First, some players will foul out. That may be a good thing if the other guy fouls out but we won't like it when our stars are sitting on the bench. Whistles also change the flow of the game which is a pain the rear. I like it when players are allowed to play as long as it is the same for both teams.

I am thrilled about the changes in the men's game and hope it is/becomes applicable to the women's game. Basketball was designed to be a fundamental based skilled finesse game not a game where physicality is the prevalent attribute.

I think the new rule changes are a step in the right direction that will get the game moving toward the game it once was. Now the question is will the refs call the game per the new rules or will each crew have their own interpretation of what they will allow. If so no consistency game to game, conference to conference will transpire.

My feelings exactly. I love the idea of the changes. I'm just not confident that the officials will actually implement the changes. I really hope this transfers over to the women's game as well.

I also agree...anything we can do to get basketball back to being a game primarily of skill I am for.

+3. Something like those rules will likely be required for the women at some point because, unless I am mistaken, the women's game is getting more and more physical requiring less finesse and skill Not much but the trend seems to me to be clear.
