our half court offense was better. It seemed that we got the clock down close then took hurried shots. Maddie saved our rears. Her shot will come. She needs to start.
I wish Carter would play smarter. She is too good an athlete to foul out or be handicapped with too many fouls.
With a little more experience, P.L. will be better at fighting for position. She's willing to mix it up.
Sharane isnt a good ball handler and thus needs to be a better passer(as does the rest of the team).

We have silly fouls by trying to do too much. KayKay and Carter both have that problem. They need to understand better what is realistic and what is doing the best you can without doing something dumb.

Same with Sharane on some of her drives. A lot of times when she goes for the hoop I think she has no chance. But she succeeds just enough to keep her trying to do the near impossible. So I expect the turnovers to continue with her.

I agree we need to move more and screen more in our half court games. I have never understood why we don't have a better half court game. Many of our out of bounds plays are nothing short of brilliant. I would think we could incorporate some of that in a half court game.

A good motion offense, which Sherri seems to favor, gets the defense moving to the point that someone clearly gets open but we don't seem to have a lot of motion on our motion offense.

I rather like the way that the offense is developing. We have always tried to pass to the middle (it gets intercepted). Suddenly, Carter begins to drive to the lane and either shoot or pass. In this case, the pass is usually wide open. She has now settled down enough to hit her shot, although I doubt she continues to shoot 70% from the three point line. But, Carter has created what the motion offense has not, movement---hence, open shooters.

Enter Maddie, deliberately inserted for her ability to do something that Gabbi has yet to learn. If you give Maddie a high post screen, she'll get to the rim every time, and she is a much more accurate passer in the lane than Gabbi or Gioya. If we had been hitting last night, she probably set up seven or eight threes. We hit one. Again, this gets the defense moving to stop her, and there are open shooters. All we have to do is to hit our shots.

The commentators kept commenting that Maddie was running the pick and roll. I didn't see a lot of rolling, but Maddie was creating. Until they can find a way to stop Gioya and Maddie from getting to the middle, this is a pretty good offense.

We did win by double digits. We must have done a few things well.

I also think we need more work in the 1/2 court offense. Texas helped us out last night by only shooting 26%. They probably won't shoot that bad in any game the rest of the year. That means, we most likely have to improve in the half-court in order to beat them again as well as win other tough teams. We still have a long way to go and we have to continue to improve. What happened last night will have no bearing on what happens in the future.

We also need more work on bringing the ball up the court against pressure. We were somewhat ragged last night.

It is interesting that Sherri implied that we didn't play as well as we could last night. Only Vivi, Gioya, and Maddie shot at least fifty percent from the field. We had some bad shooting nights. We had some deer in the headlight players.

But, what caused Texas to have a bad shooting night wasn't just that they were unlucky. Texas shoots well because they dominate the paint. We made it difficult for them to score in the paint last night. They dominate by outscoring their opponents by 18 in the paint. We outscored them. We took their game away from them.

When they are unguarded, Nneka, Lang, Jones, and Imani can hit seventy percent easily. They had fits. Those four were 10 of 28. It wasn't luck. We set out to take their game away from them, and we did just that.

As I've said recently, the most impressive thing about this team since Yale is the way we are playing defense. OU, even with the twins, has never been this good defensively, IMO.

I think that OU's rebounding last nite was the difference....I haven't watched Texas play much this year, but I bet their bigs make a lot of their points on put-backs. It looked like all of our players were going to the glass on defense. I saw more girls jumping for rebounds last nite than I can remember ever.......

And our offense didn't take a lot of bad shots last nite. I can only remember about four or five times when I was talking to the TV....:o
