what did he state that you were thinking?

I'm very curious if anybody even saw Joe C. And if anybody has ever seen him at a sporting event. B/c most of the time, if he is not wlaking around talking to people, he is chilling with a "stern" look on his face.

He sits at basketball games and talks to people at halftime and before the game. I even see him talking to Toby Keith at basketball games during the game (may be a timeout which is usually when the camera pans in that direction), but he does conversate.

At football games, he stands on the sideline and he talks to people. I've seen it many times.

Joe is a politician as well as a businessman and he has to be both in his role as AD. He is friendly to everybody because it's his job since he's on the frontline for the University at sporting events. I can imagine if he was noticeably more quiet and more stone-faced than normal that people who he normally conversates with would take notice.

Those of you who think Sittler is full of it and that Joe was actually joking and horsing around while his basketball team is getting embarrassed on regional TV are fooling yourselves. I can guarantee you none of the representatives of OU who were at that game were happy with the outcome and all of them were probably pretty quiet and not in the mood to talk.

Heck, Larry Naifeh looks like he's ready to chew nails even when we are winning, but I think that's just his persona. :)

nobody is saying that. the problem with sittler is that he is assuming what joe is thinking. and don't tell me that joe c doesn't sit and watch the game at all. I see it numerous times. I never said he doesn't conversate.

who is in charge of hiring the assistant coaches? IMO, the answer to that question is where the fault lies.

Having sat right in front of him at many home games, I can tell you that he does converse, and the conversation is about the game being played. The foolish notion of the Sittler article is that Sittler could read and relate what Joe C was thinking. If you love OU, you were unhappy during that game, and being the AD, you would be understandably more so. That doesn't change the fact that the only person who knows what he was thinking was Joe C.

Wow...you're making a very huge assumption when you may not have all nor many of the facts in question.

And yes, Joe C. hired Capel, so he has to take a portion of the blame for this abortion of a season. But he doesn't "coach" basketball and if he feels that Capel isn't up to the job, then he will make a change at some point. Joe C. has a paramount of credibility with donors and administration. His track record speaks for itself and if he wants to be upset at Capel for the lack of success this year....I don't have a problem with it.

This isn't one of your better threads.

Less than a year ago when the Sooners were positioning themselves for a run to the Elite 8, Jeff Capel was a hero and Joe C. was the genius who hired him. Now, bring up Capel's name and the response you'll likely get is: "That man can't coach. He's in over his head. He can't control his players. He can't judge talent. He can't accept blame. He can't do this. He can't do that. He can't blah, blah, blah."

If all that's true – and it may turn out that it absolutely IS the case – then why should Joe C. be immune from criticism? After all, he's the one who plucked this unknown coach from an irrelevant school and handed him the reins of one of the Top 20 programs in America.

It doesn't matter if Sittler knew what he was talking about when he wrote that column about Joe C. Whether Sittler knew it or not, you can bet Castiglione really is pi$$ed over what he's seen from the Sooners this year. That's because Joe C. is smart enough to know that when Capel looks bad, Joe C. looks bad also.

jesus people. nobody is saying he should be immune to criticism. But to criticize him b/c of this "grimace" is just plain stupid. That is what this thread is about.

Then he's to blame for OU going to the NC in football, the men making it to the E8, and the women going to the FF last year.

FYI -- Joe didn't hire Sherri Coale. Donnie Duncan did. IMO, had Joe been the AD, Sherri Coale wouldn't have even had a sniff at the job. However, I still think Joe would have hired somebody who would have made the program much better than it was because the Big 12 would have forced us to hire somebody worth their salt.

It's all a moot point anyway because Sherri is here now and that's all that matters.

David Boren had the heavier hand in hiring Stoops than Joe C did.

thats not what I am saying at all. I am saying that Joe C. can stick any attitude in a sack because some problems hafta be expected hiring a newb coach.

Doesn't mean coach should leave, doesn't blame anyone, just the fact that they need to recognize and not act like "well there's no reason this should have happened".

Coach himself admitted he was faced with unknowns in dealing with the troops this year. If it's a surprise to Joe C that a young coach would face unknowns then Joe C needs to pull his head out.
