Kaylon- needs to cut down on fouls and hit the boards hard. She has a good offensive game. She can shoot with either hand and her footwork is very good. Keeping her in the game with fewer fouls will be huge.
Gabbi- improve her 3-point shooting. She had some very good nights shooting behind the line but her season average of 31% needs to come up a bit in the area of 35%. She also needs to improve her defense a bit against quick guards and be in a position to close out better against 3 point shooters. She had a very good year for a freshmen and I expect her to be even better next year.
Peyton- Peyton is not as fast as the great shooting guards so she needs to anticipate better on defense. She also needs to be more consistent on offense. While her shooting percentages were very good, there were some games in which she struggled to score. She still lead the team in scoring and she knows how to play the game. Fun to watch and will likely improve by this fall.
Gioya- she has three areas that need improvement; consistency, turnovers, and fouls. Her fouling kept her on the bench during times that we needed her athleticism, defense, and scoring badly. After struggling for a number of games, I felt she was beginning to overcome that problem somewhat at the end of the year. But, the girl can flat score and defend. She may give Peyton a run for scoring honors next year.
Maddie- needs to improve in taking care of the basketball and change her mindset to become offensive minded. She made 32 turnovers to only 18 assists. As a comparison, Peyton only had 33 turnovers while playing more than twice the minutes. As we know, turnovers cost Maddie a lot of playing time this year as Sherri was quick to pull her immediately after a mistake or two. Maddie has very good shooting percentages while only averaging 5.5 points per game. She turns down shot after shot. For her to be an effective starter, she has to realize it is imperative that she score when she's open. Some excused it because of her knees. Her knees have everything to do with how well she moves (no problem moving) but they have nothing to do with taking a shot. When she changes her mindset, her scoring numbers will look a lot better. We need for those changes to occur as we have an opening at the 4 spot and it would be great to see her become a dominate 4, which is where I have felt all along is the best position for her and the team.
Team- we were next to last in scoring defense in the conference. Some teams dominated us on the boards. We have to improve defense and rebounding.
None of these things are impossible to change. Hard work and sacrifice can correct most of the problems mentioned.
