This was from Sittler's article in the Tulsa World today:

"There's all kinds of things that make this (investigation) look bad, but there's really no evidence," an OU source said. "The hard part is trying to find evidence whether (Taliaferro) did anything or not. It's bizarre."

Thats a good sign. Hopefully we can just move on in the near future and get back on the road to just caring about basketball.

basically no money trail.
For OU's sake, I hope it doesn't drag out.

The frustrating part for Capel is that the school and the NCAA reportedly are making very little progress into a report Gallon had $3,000 wired to his bank account by an investor connected to Taliaferro.

If Taliaferro and stock broker Jeffrey Hausinger continue to refuse cooperating with OU and the NCAA, the investigation potentially could go on for years, much like the five-year probe just completed at USC.

Taliaferro needs to cooperate with the investigation. He owes that much to OU, and if he's innocent, he helps himself by cooperating.

If he's not innocent, he's not going to get past this by stonewalling. The sooner it all comes to a head, the sooner he can get to work on rebuilding his reputation and career.

I dunno, the NCAA not being able to find any evidence against the program, whether that is due to OT's refusal to cooperate or not, seems like the best possible outcome for us.

Unless the National Communist Athletic Association decides that they can punish us for lack of cooperation

How did stonewalling work out for USC? I know there's a difference, in that OU (if not Tiny and Taliaferro) is cooperating while USC didn't, but the NCAA eventually got the info and evidence they needed and no one got off easy.

Taliaferro doesn't work here any more so we can't force him to cooperate. There is a difference between a person OU has no control over being uncooperative and the university being uncooperative. It's my understanding that everyone at USC stonewalled the NCAA.

If we can get evidence, we by all means should and turn it directly over to the NCAA. I don't want OU to hide anything and, you're right, if we can find it, so can the NCAA. Better to get it over with now...

But...If OU and the NCAA can't find any evidence without OT cooperating... Well, let's just say I can live without OT cooperating.

+1.

Calipari has been giving $500 handshakes since the beginning of time, and the ncaa knows it yet they can't do a damn thing about it!

cmon, Sky, that's apples to oranges. With USC we are talking about multiple infractions committed in multiple sports. We are talking about millions of dollars here, not a $3000 loan...That's lack of institutional control and it starts @ the top with their slimeball AD Garrett.

All true. But they weren't already on probation when their infractions occurred.

My only point was, not cooperating didn't help USC a bit -- it hurt them. I think it would hurt us too. It's true that we have no control over OT now, but I didn't claim we did. I said I think he owes it to us to cooperate with the investigation, and I stand by that. If he's basically a decent guy, let him come clean on our behalf. If he's not, I'm sorry he ever worked for OU.

Where have I heard this before?

Not to mention, there may not have even been an NCAA violation. Thanks to all those demanding the death penalty or predicting "major sanctions" in the media or otherwise...guilty before proven innocent [or at least waiting to have FACTS that warrant such conclusions} is officially alive and well on the internet.

Wonder what recruit the blowhards cost us [according to Capel himself]?

The fact remains that if we have done all we can to cooperate and to get him to cooperate, we aren't doing what USC did. Whatever he did or didn't do, he's probably made himself persona non grata as far as coaching at NCAA schools is concerned.

I swear its like some people WANT us to go on probation or face "major sanctions" notwithstanding evidence that is paltry at best. Yep, OU is JUST LIKE USC, we self-report and cooperate with inquiries, just like they did.

What a joke some "fans" of OU are.

That would be false. USC was put on 5 years probation back in 2001 for the academic fraud scandal and in the report they got the dreaded repeat offender label since the Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo stuff happened while they were still on probation.

Thanks for the correction.

As for you, Mr. B, you'll meet no bigger fan of Sooner sports in your lifetime than me and you come off as ridiculous pronouncing who's a fan and who's limited to "fan" status.

I'm 52. I've been living and dying with the Sooners since the Sixties. I've seen all I care to see of NCAA violations and the accompanying penalties. I want OU to be as a clean a program as there is in the country (it's understood that even the cleanest programs have missteps). If you have a problem with my feeling that way, look within yourself; don't point fingers at me.

I'll say it once more -- in no way am I comparing our situation with the USC situation beyond this single, minor point: Stonewalling the NCAA generally gets one nowhere.

Thankfully, OU has cooperated with this investigation. In my opinion, we should put the heat on Taliaferro to do the same. It would serve us well for him to do so. If there's smoke and no fire, great -- we're golden. If there's fire -- even a small flame -- better to get it out there and dealt with.

I hope that clarifies my stance for those with reading comprehension issues. I don't know how to make it any clearer.

This is just crazy talk because some folks have a difference of opinion on how to move forward than you do.

Why do you find it necessary to question OU loyalty and/or suggest that others want OU to be heavily penalized and Capel gone just because their opinion differs from your own? I might take you more seriously if you simply argued your point without calling everyone else's character into question when they disagree with you. Until then, I will refer to you as "Mr. B.S.".

Have a nice day!

I think you have comprehension issues, becuase nobody that I am aware of has accused OU of stonewalling anybody....to even compare the OU situation with the USC situation is a joke. Not really even a joke, but sad on many different levels.
