Introducing freshman Rashard Odomes

Anybody know how he shot it from three last year, and at what volume?

I like that in his three words to describe himself he said smart. His words were leader, funny and smart.

This Scout.com article said he shot 50 percent from three last season, so I think it's safe to say that he can shoot from distance if need be. I couldn't find anything about the volume.

I do know he was 2 of 4 from behind the arc in the Faith Seven game where he earned the Texas MVP honors after scoring 37 points. I also noticed that he wasn't shy about launching it from deep in the highlights and practice videos attached to his freshman introduction story.

Odomes has the numbers to prove that he could step in right away – 25.2 points and 12.4 rebounds per game as a senior while shooting nearly 60 percent from the field and better than 50 percent from behind-the-arc.

He seems like a terrific young man; I can't wait to see him on the court as a Sooner!

really really excited about this kid. more so than any recruit in awhile

I'm betting he is an upgrade over Frank.

I'm with you on that prediction, vbdad! I expressed similar thoughts a couple of weeks ago on another thread. And to set the record straight, that's not meant as a knock on Booker. I just believe Rashard is a superior athlete with a better skill set than Frank was as a freshman, which means it's highly likely he has a bigger upside.

The only thing he comes up short on is experience. But, if he combines what appears to be a great work ethic with the confidence he put on display in the interview we watched, I think he has the potential to contribute in a meaningful way his first season.

Bored and just watched this again. That clip of him driving to the bucket for an effortless-looking layup in the OU practice was sweet.

While Rashard's 50% shooting average from three last year proves he can shoot it from deep, it's obvious he would rather take defenders to the hole when closely guarded.

I also like his confidence. He's not afraid to mix it up with the veterans. I liked the part where Spangler was complaining because Odomes was playing him to close and too physical on defense. No way this kid doesn't play and play a lot this season!

Based on the one practice I watched, I agree 100%. He's fearless taking the ball to the hoop. Honestly, I liked all the newcomers but it's hard not to like Odomes a lot because of his aggressive style. It's a special group.

I know you guys are having to be somewhat guarded, but from watching practice, if you had to guess, who in your opinion right now would be the 5th starter... Manyang or Khadeem?

I haven't seen Manyang at OU yet but, from what I've heard about Lattin's offseason, I'd be surprised if Lattin's did not start the season in the first unit.

I've see nanyang. I would describe him as improbably tall.

I asked that question to 2 of the practice "regulars". They both said Lattin, but Manyang is still learning the system. Lattin got there real late to the practice I watched, so I couldn't tell much other than he got a short haircut. Manyang looked good at times battling on the boards. I remember one sequence in the middle of a hotly contested scrum where Akolda shot and missed, got the rebound and missed again, and then got another rebound and finally scored as he was falling to the floor. The whole team went nuts and helped him up. He's not a wuss.

There was another late play where Buddy took the ball to the hoop and Lattin almost planted it in his molars. Great volleyball spike.

They weren't really scrimmaging but instead were in some half court situational scenarios. Both guys are going to play a lot but it's really too early to call who starts.

Ideally, Lattin, Manyang and Spangler will all be similar and play similar minutes. I would expect Spangler to play a bit more but keeping all of them below 30 minutes a game would be good in my opinion. I could see something like Spangler 30 or just under, Lattin 20, Manyang 20 and others 10 (maybe Buford when OU goes small).

After two straight years of wearing down by mid-February, I think the coaches will manage Spangler's number of minutes like a pitching coach manages number of pitches. Having two other guys like Manyang and Lattin who the team can count on is vital. Also, if McNease can earn some minutes, it will definitely keep Spangler fresh. We need him for March if we're going to take a postseason run up a notch.

Has Buford been more with the bigs or wings?
